I am in full agreement with the positive comments from other of DR. Schottenfeld's patients. From the my first visit at which time Dr. Schottenfeld diagnosed that my right knee had osteoarthritis which had caused me much pain and loss of mobility. Long story short, he had me do pre-op rehab to strengthen the muscles after which I underwent total knee replacement surgery by this fine surgeon which was followed up by home therapy/rehab and subsequent rehab at the Kessler Rehabilitation Center in Metuchen for 6 weeks. Great therapists there I might add. Bottom line, I am completely pain free with full mobility. Just had my follow-up visit with Dr.S. Feel great, highly recommend. Wonderful, helpful staff as well.

He appears to be very confused, trouble focusing and concentrating. I received his faxed notes, I believe by mistake because I requested to know the test results of fluid he with drew from my RIGHT knee. No one notified me of the results, I had to ask? He misdiagnosed my left knee, I have bursitis he said I did not? Another orthopedist was giving me cortisone shots for it, they helped. Schottenfeld withdrew fluid out of my RIGHT knee BUT his report said he took it out of my LEFT? My right knee he labeled some kind of deformity? In fact I was rear ended in a car accident in 2001 and my knees hit the steering column of the dash board which started my knee problems. I was getting synvisc shots from another orthopedist, Schottenfeld criticized me for getting those shots. My other doctor said as long as they help I do not need surgery, he was a very conservative doctor (Schottenfeld pushes surgery).. Schottenfeld did not accurately list the medications I am on, even though I took the time to write them in my paperwork. He mentioned medications I have not been on since 2010? My cardiologist said I did not need them. Schottenfeld put personal negative comments about me which were unnecessary to be part of my permanent medical record. He accused me of not going to my cardiologist for two years? WHEN IN FACT I go every six months for blood work etc., since 2010, he accused me of not having cardio testing? I have no idea where he got his information, he is very confused and made this up. There was a patient before me a small elderly Hispanic man with a hat on, that he wanted him to go to his cardiologist since he hadn't been to for a long time. The scar tissue from the patients hand prevented him from opening and closing his hand normally. HOW DO I KNOW THIS THERE IS NO PATIENT PRIVACY OR CONFIDENTIALITY, the curtain was open, I saw and heard everything. (CONFUSED AGAIN) did he confuse me with the patient before me? He was pushing his own cardiologist for me to switch to, he said mine would not transfer my records? He had trouble opening a cabinet door, called his nurse that it was locked? It was not locked (how embarrassing). He bragged about how many knee replacements he does a week? RED FLAG stay away. He refuses to correct his mistakes on his report about me, so I am going to file a complaint with Medical Consumer Affairs. He is 74 years old, he wandered in and out of where I was, talking to himself? I don't want to go to a doctor that does not know his right from his left and makes things up in his reports. Maybe it is time for him to retire. I gave him the opportunity to correct his mistakes on his report, he chose not to, the only thing he did was correct the left knee to the right and that was written (I suspect not by him) it was not initialed or dated? The good news I found a very good doctor with NO negative reviews, a very good reputation, respect AND PRIVACY. Schottenfeld also referred to me in his report as THIS WOMAN, to me I found it very disrespectful (this woman has a name, his accusations and negative comments should not have been put in my medical file, he accused me of being negligent, unnecessary to be apart of my permanent medical record and also not true. Beware this could happen to you. He told me he does not believe in knee shots, surgery is the only way? REALLY? Do yourself a favor shop around for a good doctor not one that gets confused and puts wrong information on your medical records. I learned a lesson from this, A PATIENT IS AT THE MERCY OF A DOCTORS REPORT, WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE WRITING, most of us do not get to read what they write. Notice, I am not referring to him as doctor, he did not refer to me by my name in his report, he referred to me AS THIS WOMAN. THIS WOMAN HAS A NAME SCHOTTENFELD. I was shocked and disturbed about all the wrong information you put in my file. Schottenfeld is connected and referred by Medemerge, I was referred to him by a PA in Medemerge. Patients, choose your doctors wisely.

Dr. Schottenfeld is one of the finest doctors I have ever encountered. He did my Total Knee Replacement and I became pain free. He is up to date on the latest state-of-the-art procedures and prothesis. He is very insistent on preventing infection and prescribes pre-op medication for for all surgeries. He sent me for physical therapy before my surgery. This was tremendously helpful post-surgery and helped me recover faster. Following his instructions faithfully will help you. He is very knowledgeable and at times has recommended other top-notch doctors including a neuro-surgeon for my spinal stenosis. I would certainly recommend highly to anyone.

Dr. Schottenfeld is the best orthopedic Suregeon! He has done my rotator cuff over 20 yrs. ago which gave my full usage of my arm again.and again in 2009 due to excessive wear & tear (on my part carrying & lifting heavy) He also did arthroscopic on my left knee and the August he will be doing my other shoulder. As long as you do what he says to take care of yourself you are ALWAYS in good hands with Dr. Schottenfeld. His office staff is also very caring, knowledgable, which also takes away a lot of the pre & post surgery anxiety. I recommend him to others who have need surgery and there is always praise for the work he has done. THat also includes having spoken to other patients in the office wiating to see him throughout the many years I have seen him.

Took my sister-inlaw to him with terrible hip pain. He was arrogant uncaring. and he gave it to me for giving her a painkiller over the weekend because he said it would mask the problem. She was in agony. He said I can't be boxed in because you live in another country and have to get home.Well she didn't say one word to him she was in so much pain. To make a long story short it was non Hodgkins lymphoma which was picked up at the Mayo clinic 4 months later. He couldn't have been nastier or more wrong on the diagnosis. Run the other way.

Very arrogant with a god complex. Spoke negatively about my PCP after admitting he didn't know him. Refuses to read digital images, preferring films. I waited 90 minutes past my appointment time before seeing him; he was busy on personal calls in the very next room. If it was my choice, I would not see him again, and I certainly would not recommend him, no matter how qualified he was.
