Would strongly recommend Dr Itani. Came in to Saint Clare with perforated appendicitis after midnight. He took out the appendix with a small incision and a camera. No complications. Went back to work in 3 days. Staff is very professional and curteous

Beware of this doctor!! He is as specialist at what is termed "Balance Billing". This means that if he is performing an emergency surgery as an out of network surgeon (which he is for just about everyone) he will hold YOU responsible for any amount your insurance company won't pay. About 5 months after your surgery, along with a bill, his office will then send you a form letter with instructions and an actual dialogue on how to fight with your insurance to get them to pay more. If you have an employer-funded plan like many private companies do, legally they do not have to pay him the full amount that he wants - even if it is an emergency!! This means you are on the hook for the rest and it can be quite a lot of money - much more than what is considered usual and customary. My advice; if the Hospital calls Itani to perform any emergency surgery and you have an employer-funded plan, tell them you want someone else. And don't believe him if he says it all has to be covered by the insurance company. He did that with me and it was a lie. That is only if you have Medicare or Medicaid. If it is a private employer funded plan, they are under no legal obligation to pay and you are liable. Also, he makes you sign a contract with him right as you are going into surgery and will tell you it's just “routine paperwork” allowing him to operate. A lot of his reviews mention that. Read the bottom paragraph, that is where you are agreeing to be "balance billed"....Consider yourself warned.... This physician is incompetent. He does not listen to patient or family; he does not answer questons; he performs procedures for which he is not qualified; he is evasive and misleading and wasted 2 painful days for me in urgent care, informing me and my family that the region's trauma hospital would not admit me because he could perform the procedure at Newton Memorial--which he did incorrectly; after 2 tries, the 3rd day he wanted to perform the procedure again with a different piece of equipment; my family and I refused and insisted I be transfered; another physician finally--finally--intervened and I was transferred by ambulance with the other hospital's trauma nurse in the ambulance caring for me; another doctor at Newton hospital had arranged this; Dr. Itani told me I could die if he didn't do the proceedure again before I was transfered; we refused; he also had told us the night prior to performing the procedure that we ourselves would have to find an admitting e.r. physician ourselves at the trauma hospital--that he could not do it because he could do the procedure. Do not go to Newton Memorial for anything serious; the ambulance will transport you to Morristown Memorial. The extra minutes en route can save pain and worry and physical damage.

Dr. Itani is by far the most unprofessional "doctor" I ever had the displeasure of meeting. Unfortunately I had no choice to pick a surgeon due to the fact my case was an emergency and sadly he was the surgeon on call at the time. He was very rude, answered no questions, made sure no other family members were around or present when he made his rounds to "check" on me. Furthermore his staff is probably the most disrespectful and demeaning group of people you could ever imagine dealing with. The doctor never follow up with me after my surgery which ended with further complications and he has since fallen off the face of the earth. I wouldn't recommend this doctor to anyone, ever. Save yourself the time, money and mistreatment from him and his staff, DO NOT USE THIS DOCTOR.
