I consulted Dr. Fong, chief resident at a prominent area teaching hospital, for treatment of a depressive episode that had stagnated. Unfortunately, my interactions with him would only mimic those of his predecessors. Though a polite and somewhat engaging man, Dr. Fong did not provide any feedback on my intake documentation, nor did he seek to develop a concrete treatment plan for my illness. It was all medication management, as though somehow being on medication put an end to the matter. In the end, Dr. Fong would move from the area, and I was no better off from having seen him. The opportunity to help me improve was thus wasted.
