I have been going to Dr. Barrell for about 6 years now.

I find that he approaches medical care in a direct and focused manner (which, admittedly, some may find gruff). When I see him, I know that he will give me his undivided attention and take everything I say on board.

I appreciate his swift and calm approach to painful procedures. For example, he does not make an anxiety-inducing show of warning before giving injections, but instead gives them during the course of conversation so quickly that I hardly notice.

He is a wealth of knowledge and clearly passionate about medicine. When I ask him questions, he offers thorough explanations (sometimes even describing recent scientific studies on the subject) and seems interested helping me understand my own health to the same depth that he does. Often, medicine can seem arcane, even arbitrary at times, but Dr. Barrell's scientific approach greatly puts my mind at ease.

Barrell provider # 365073B. Consulted Barrell in emergency. Could not get to my usual doctor due to distance and other unavoidable circumstances. Following first three visits to Barrell, he secretly recorded "depression 4.5 years". Did not seek any input from my usual doctor. No recognisable symptoms recorded. Referred me to local psychiatrist for 'second opinion'. Psych. did NOT diagnose depression. Barrell ignored psych's opinion and persisted with his own diagnosis, prescribing SSRI. When challenged Barrell quickly withdrew his 'services' without offering any reason(s). Refuses to explain his opinion(s) or records. My usual doc states definitely no depression EVER. If you must see Barrell - be VERY careful and demand a copy of his records on the day. More info on my web site.
