He takes time to explain things, he is friendly and very highly regarded by other doctors too, it makes any delay in waiting worth it.

He was my husband's surgeon For several years and I was amazed at how sincere and caring he was, always there to give us information and help with whatever was needed. So glad that he's still hard at work and helping people. He designed an elbow and put it in my husband and it worked great. My husband died in 1999 of streptococcalpneumonia. we liked Dr. Itamura soooo much.

He crippled me by overdrugging. His rotator cuff repair was botched horribly. He should lose his license to practice. I'd have a 1 pm appointment and not see him for a few minutes until 5 pm.

I went to Dr. John Itamura due to my elbow pain and he suggested to perform surgery on my elbow. I underwent the surgery and right after I woke up from anesthesia I felt a horrible pain in my hand. When he finally came to see me after he was done with other surgeries, he told me that the pain I was feeling was because when he was trying to open up my elbow to do the surgery, he cut the main nerve of my hand and he couldn’t even do the main fixing of my elbow! I started having horrible burning, shooting, numbness, tingling pain that not even nerve block shots or morphine could ease. Then I had to go to another state after 3 months to get a nerve transplant while my elbow still had the same unfixed issue! It was a six hour surgery in which the surgeon had to open up a huge cut on my wrist and open up the elbow with a bigger cut again so that maybe after two years I could get 20 percent of my hand’s function back, no guarantee! Every day I have more muscle loss in my hand and I have a disfunctonal hand It was my dominant hand. I am still very young with 3 young kids and a very sick husband! I’ve been crying and constantly depressed from agonizing, excruciating pain! I am on lots of strong pain killers and anti depressants pills, and I’ve been told that I have to live with this pain for the rest of my life. I keep hiding my hand because I don’t want anyone to see it. It’s full of scars with lots of atrophy! My fingers are bent and I can’t spread them apart! I don’t have a grip and I’ve gotten a second degree burn on my hand without even knowing due to the numbness and it had to be grafted later on! My life is a nightmare now. Nerve damage is not a temporary thing, it will be permanent! I will depend on other people for the rest of my life.

My experience with Dr. Itamura and his team has been the worst of any I've ever had with a doctor. In over half a year of regular appointments (around 3-4x per month), he often seemed to have forgotten the details of my case, and I would have to go over everything as if I were a new patient. I have never felt so un-cared for and irrelevant as a patient. To make matters worse, every single visit was preceded by no less than a two hour wait, sometimes more than three, and the physician assistants and fellows were terribly unprofessional; on several occasions I witnessed yelling/cursing matches between PAs, which creates a toxic environment to spend so much time in. The only positive point was the staff at the front desk, who were polite, friendly, and as helpful as they could be--in stark contrast to Dr. Itamura and the other medical staff. I regret not orthopedic doctors sooner.

Dr Itamura has done 2 shoulder replacements and reverse shoulder replacement on my husband. We have found him to be extremely knowledgeable and caring. The wait is usually long, but it is worth it. He personally fought for my husband to get the treatment he needed when his insurance had declined it. He is a great one to have in your corner... and operating on you. We are grateful for his wisdom, expertise, and genuine concern for the well being of my husband as his patient.

Because you'll have to wait to see him the punctuality rating only gets a three, however, this is the last thing you want to worry about when rating a doctor.

After two failed surgeries I was told by a QME doctor for workers compensation insurance that only Dr. Itamura could fix my shoulder. It required a total shoulder replacement and without a doubt I made the right decision to go to Dr. Itamura and have since recommended him to a friend who is also totally pleased. YES, you will have to wait but if you want the very best the wait is well worth it as he takes all the time needed to thoroughly answer all questions and make you feel comfortable. For me I'm glad I waited!
