I had a fungus that had developed on my right big tie. I had seen my nurse Practitioner and she had tried to help me. I took antibiotics and over the counter toe fungus liquid medicine. Nothing helped. Instead it became worse. I saw Dr. Trout today. He is very kind and explained my options. I had been dealing with my toe fungus for 2 years. I felt very comfortable with him. He had to remove toenail and kill the fungus. I feel confident that the problem will be solved. Charisse Ozella

Over six years ago, Dr Trout "reconstructed" my foot. All I wanted was removal of a bunion and lymphoma. Turns out he filled my foot, ankle, and toes with stainless steel. The entire experience was hellish! To this day I experience excruciating pain. I cannot find a comfortable shoe. I used to like to go on walks, but now even walking around my home is a challenge in endurance. And my foot and ankle is swollen to two to three times it's natural size. I'm even now afraid to undergo any type of surgery, as one never knows what might happen.

Some days out of the blue, I'll have fierce shooting pain reel through my foot to the point that I yell to God for help. I gave this idiotic doctor 1 star. I've give him a minus review if I could. Fyi: my lypoma is now larger than ever and on the other side of my ankle where he continuously rubs against my shoes. KARMA!

I went to Dr. Trout for a second opinion. I expected more detail about the surgery than a one sentence explanation.

I had been seeing a podiatrist in Ottumwa for quite some time. His staff was so rude to me that I had my records transferred to Dr. Trout at Iowa Ortho. I am so happy that I did. I had been receiving steroid shots in my toe and foot for several years and felt that I needed to look at a surgical option. Instead, he sent me to physical therapy. After 6 weeks, I am pain free and no surgery is required. So glad that he listened to my concerns about surgery and came up with another option for me that was successful...

Gave me a flourinated steroid shot for a stubbed small toe. I was born with paralysis from cerebral palsy in that foot. He said no worries about side effects - no details. I now have a muscle disease and and likely will be permanently disabled from muscle loss/atrophy throughout my body.

Never again would this doc operate on me unless it's to take this debilitating and painful hardware he put in my ankle and foot. Bad experience.

II went to see Dr. Trout about hammer toes on both feet 8 toes in total no issue with the big toes. Dr. Trout looked at my feet and had them x-rayed then he explained my options. I chose to have surgery. Dr. Trout went through the procedure with me how he would cut the tendon on the bottom of the toes and insert screws in 6 of the 8 toes. He said that it would only take about 20 minutes. That is 2.5 minutes per toe. I wish I would’ve asked more questions as this short amount of time did have me concerned. I asked if I could have both feet done at the same time as he wanted to do one and then 6 month later do the other. He agreed to do both after I explained why I wanted them both done at the same time. I now wish I would have only had one done. If I would have only had one done I would NOT have had Dr. Trout perform surgery on the other foot. The day of the surgery Dr. Trout was running a little behind and seemed to be rushed.
Before and after surgery I was told that it would take 6 months for the swelling to go away. During my checkups Dr. Trout assured me that I was progressing well and the toes and x-rays always looked good. At the 6 month mark I went back to see Dr. Trout he told me that everything was looking great and I told him that they may look great but they feel the same if not worse. After looking at my feet some more and asking me some more questions he scheduled me for a Tarsal Tunnel Test. I went back 2 weeks later to get the results from the Tarsal Tunnel test only to find nothing wrong. At this time Dr. Trout informed me that he had no idea what could be wrong but to come back in 2 weeks and see if thing have gotten any better. It has been a year and half since my surgery and my feet are still swollen I have gone from a size 12 to 13 wide because of the swelling in my toes and let’s not forget that one of the screws is coming out. I do feel that the surgery was rushed and because of that I now have to seek out another Dr. who hopefully has some ideas to why my feet still hurt. All of this at a cost of $45,000.00 that is $5,625.00 a toe.

Bryan Trout operated on both of my feet and before surgery I was in constant pain. It has now been about 5 yrs. since the surgeries and I have no complaints at all. I know someone else who had the same surgery done by someone else in Burlington, Iowa and he says his foot is worse than before surgery. Dr. Trout was super nice and explained everything that would be done. I know if I ever have to have foot surgery again for something else, I won't go to anyone else.

Dr. Trout completed my second foot surgery last week. He extracted bone from the left ankle and injected it in to my right fifth metatarsil break. Dr. Trout collaborated with my primary doctor which positively affected my overall patient care and a team experience. Dr. Trout is highly knowledgable in his field and is one of the easiest doctors, I have found, to communicate with. Thank you Dr. Trout for being an excellent doctor/surgeon and making my surgical experience on of ease and understanding. Margaret B.
