I would never recommend Dr. James Chesnutt to someone dealing with post-concussion symptoms. I found him to possess the qualities of a good doctor and a terrible one. Good because he was open to talking about the boundaries of his knowledge and of medicine. Terrible because he seemed to be incurious. While there were other things that bothered me during the appointment (including his eagerness to talk about the immense cost savings of not doing ANY imaging on ANY of his concussed patients), the dangerous combination of incuriousness and certainty is a dealbreaker.

We were referred to Dr. Chesnutt, have seen him one time so far, In that time, he did all he could to help my daughter, and even called twice to check on her progress. He is helpful, knowledgeable and compassionate.

I waited one hour after my scheduled appointment before seeing Dr. Chesnutt. Dr. Chestnutt is patient and shares his knowledge in a pleasant way. Since he works with OHSU, he always has students with him during the consultation and it becomes a training session for the students instead of a consultation with a doctor. I was never offered the option of not having the students in the room during the appointment. The staff is young and a bit inexperienced.
