I did not care for dr. Sheth's bedside manner with my child. She kept saying that my child's feet were "flat as pancakes" and said "at least you didn't bring me any warts". Maybe she was trying to be funny, but it was unprofessional in my opinion. My child wasn't laughing either. Dr. Sheth's gait analysis consisted of having my child walk in place for what I would say was about 7 seconds. But the worst part was that she recommended that in-office x-rays be done during the visit. I wish I hadn't had them done and researched it more first because I now know that they were completely unnecessary. After the appointment I read one of their pamphlets that they had right in the exam room and it stated that "if your problem is severe and your podiatrist suspects a bone problem, x-rays may be needed." My child was there for a foot exam and did not even have any symptoms or pain let alone a severe problem. The diagnosis was flat, flexible feet. I had a second opinion and asked the other podiatrist if x-rays might be needed. The other podiatrist said that no x-rays are needed because there are no symptoms and no pain. Doing more research, I found that according to MedlinePlus (U.S. National Library of Medicine), if the flat foot is “flexible” you will not need any more tests. It’s only when upon examination that there is “rigid” flat feet that x-rays may be needed.
