This so called doctor has no business running the government at all. Nobody voted for him and election should be called to make things fair and square. Just another hungry doctor in the government looking for nice pay checks and pension. Those doctors are nothing but ego booster who only care about themselves for attention that they desperately craves and for the money. None of these doctors in the government can't fix the real issues and problems that is going on in the healthcare system in Newfoundland. He need to resign along with Dr. Haggie and they are one of the worst doctors around. Terrible and empty services is best they can offer. What a joke and don't be surprised that many comments on here has been removed just like with other doctors and hospitals across Newfoundland. Censorship is rampant and out of control when it comes to review sites or criticism on their pages on many social media websites. Censorship goes against free speech and Charter of Rights and Freedom.

I broke my collarbone in an accident and was referred to Dr Furey for examination. I travelled into the HSC, parked, and waited for my appointment. Dr. Furey arrived late and I was shocked with the 'examination'. He didn't make eye contact with me, preferring instead to look at the floor. Didn't touch me, didn't ask me to remove my shirt, etc. I asked 'do you want to look at it'? His answer, 'they all look bad'. I said 'will you do surgery', he replied 'no'. Then he said asked if I had a sling, I said I did and he started walking out the door!!! I had to stop him and ask 'do you have any advice for me at all?', he stopped halfway out the door and said 'take it out of the sling sometimes', and that was it, off he went. I was dumbfounded by his lack of caring, and his total insincerely. I told a number of people what a total waste of time I had experienced with this "doctor", and never thought of him again until now, that he is running for office. I was pleased to hear that I DO actually have some recourse now for the poor medical care I received. I CAN VOTE FOR ANYONE ELSE, and I will. I'll do my best to make sure the worst doctor I have ever had the misfortune to come across doesn't wind up leading me for the next 4 years.

My experience with Dr. Furey could be summed up as, Dr. Fast and Furious. Due to the high risk type of fracture, and the potential for the loss of my dominant hand it to threaten my career, I wanted to discuss a percutaneous screw rather than a casting. Our meeting was so fast he had left the room before I realized it was over: that's not a joke. I requested he return and he refused. We never discussed alternative treatments. (For the record, if it was not medically necessary, or provided by the province, I would accept this.)

My treatment went ahead without my informed consent and under duress.

He was too busy flying around for vanity projects to property schedule my appointments. One appointment was moved two weeks early and the substitute resident appeared to have misread my x-ray information as an indication of avascular necrosis; it was just premature.

Left with a diagnosis of permanent loss of my writing hand, I struggled to get an early appointment, even though the condition requires immediate wrist surgery. Dr. Furey's reception refused to reschedule me even after he returned to the province the following week. I threatened lawyers and managed to get in one week early. At that time he reviewed my information--very obviously for the first time--and was quiet annoyed as he explained that the bone was perfectly normal.

A physiotherapist recommended I request a referral to the hand clinic at the Health Science Centre, to which is exclaimed, "what's that?" I explained what it was and he said he never heard of it. It proved to be an utterly pointless visit.

Despite several months of physio (not at a hand specialist), my wrist does not have proper range. Nearly two years later I struggle to write legibly on professional documents and have difficulty traversing ladders and accessing building spaces as part of my inspection work. It has been a struggle.

I can't help but look back on the medical studies I read in advance of our first meeting, and the fact that a percutaneous screw has excellent outcomes with no muscle loss due to casting, while casting is 50/50. We should have had that discussion on date 1.

I hope he reads this some day and can recognize that he is not as great as he thinks he is--the first step to being a better Doctor.

And this is the man who now wants to run the province of Newfoundland and Labrador???... If he looks after the people like he treats his patients you can just imagine what you'll be in for. He is an ignorant man who's soul concern is looking good on a camera...doesn't care about his patients or the people of the province!!

My experience with Dr. Furey was a negative experience. Dr. Furey was quite rude and did not even try to understand me when I advised him sitting was difficult. When he demanded I sit I advised him The Pain Management Clinic at The Miller Centre advised me to stand and move as it helped lower the pain. This was after multiple surgeries and I was sent to see him for an independent assessment for an insurance company he was paid privately for. Dr. Furey slapped his pencil down on his desk and said this appointment was over. My husband and I left his clinic in shock.
I have never been treated with such disrespect as I had by this doctor.
