I have seen Dr. Smit a few times when I was younger and I didn't feel comfortable around him AT ALL. To be completely honest, he seemed a little touchy and it creeped me out.

I didn't like his attitude towards the geriatric patient.. told me my mother was old, get used to it, she is going to die. That was 5 years ago...mother is still doing quite well in a lodge.

The staff can be very difficult and the attitude is that they are doing you a favor by making an appointment. They will also cancel your checkup at the last minute and not reschedule until much later. Dr. Smit is a very caring and dedicated Doctor. He has been here for over 7 years now. He genuinely cares for patients and their families. But,I find his experience is mostly South African and a limited but improving Canadian focus. If you're sick and need to get in, go to the Didsbury hospital.

Dr. Smit is a very caring, committed, knowledgeable doctor. However one staff member at reception is rude, unhelpful and likes to control patients by making it difficult to see Dr. Smit. Her response: "Well, we don't have to see patients!"

Absolutely the best doctor I have ever had. He knows what he's talking about and he doesn't have a problem if you need to talk about more than one ailment. Very interested in helping people...THE BEST!~!

I have the utmost respect for Dr. Smit!! We are so thankful to have him as our new family physician. He's one of the rare few that seem to truly CARE about their patient and what is best for them! We had a situation come up with our daughter a few months ago and he was so quick and caring in his response - he was immediately on the phone and giving us the referral we needed to get in to a specialist at ACH. He treats the major problems and the minor problems with the same consideration and respect and we truly hope he stays in Carstairs as we're blessed to have him!

When my mother transferred to Didsbury, after breaking her femur, she had only been in hospital for a few days, and Dr. Smit thought she should be able to go home. (She's elderly and lives on her own.)I thought he could have waited until she was up and around before trying to push her out. She didn't end up going home, no thanks to him!!!!!!!!!! Her family Dr. made sure she was able to manage before discharging her. To me he's just looking out for his patients!
