I had the IBrite procedure done a couple of years ago and I have been left with vision threatening sight problems, from scleral necrosis to dry eye. Dr Brian has offered no help or solutions for what his procedure has done to my eyes. He has destroyed my life.

All the research warns against this completely dangerous procedure and although it is too late for me, hopefully this review warns others thinking about having this barbaric surgery.

The literature has noted complications of cosmetic eye whitening, including chronic conjunctival epithelial defects, scleral thinning, avascular zones in the sclera, dry eye syndrome and diplopia requiring strabismus surgery. One review of 1,713 patients undergoing cosmetic whitening procedures noted an overall complication rate of 83%, of which 55.6% cases were considered severe. These severe complications included fibrovascular conjunctival tissue proliferation, scleral thinning with calcified plaques, IOP elevation, diplopia and recurrence of hyperemic conjunctiva.

Another study found that the average time from the procedure to diagnosis was 51 months, and all patients had unilateral findings. There was no underlying systemic autoimmunity or infectious etiology found. The authors noted that, because of the large area of the ocular surface that is treated in eye whitening with MMC, the necrotizing scleritis that can ensue may be more extensive and severe than the surgically induced necrotizing scleritis following other periocular surgeries.

One study reported on a patient who developed bilateral necrotizing scleritis within the nasal region of both eyes. The patient also developed calcified plaques within the areas of scleromalacia, along with an epithelial corneal defect four years after undergoing I-BRITE. It found a delayed development of complications.

In an attempt to raise awareness of the complications for the IBrite procedure, one study reviewed the medical records of patients who received cosmetic conjunctivectomy plus postsurgical topical MMC treatment to eliminate conjunctival injection in a single facility. They found that of the 48 patients undergoing the procedure, 44 had complications related to the procedure. These complications included fibrovascular conjunctival adhesion at the muscle insertion site, chronic dysfunctional tear syndrome, abnormal vessel growth, lymphangiectasis, adhesions of Tenon's capsule and the conjunctiva at the extraocular muscle insertion site, extraocular muscle fiber exposure and diplopia.

Be aware of this cosmetic IBrite procedure which can have an unacceptably high attendant complication rate and risk of serious vision-threatening outcomes, even years after the procedure.

This man is not the great doctor he pretends to be. He is deceitful, dishonest, and unethical. Don't believe all the self-proportion he does on the internet. He puts his picture all over the internet and gets his picture taken with celebrities thinking this will give him creditably. This is what scam artists do. He has destroyed the eyes of countless people with his I-Bright surgery. Every college of ophthalmology in this country condemns what he does to people's eyes with his I-Brite surgery and they all teach their students against it. He is the only Dr. in the country wreckless enough to do this to people's eyes. He knows he will be leaving people with severe, lifelong eye damage but he doesn't care. On top of all this, he has trained his staff to use despicable intimidation tactics that border on false imprisonment and criminal intimidation to trick you into surgery. On the phone, he constantly calls you by your first name and acts like he is your best friend. But once you get to his surgery center he turns on you like a snake and he feels he can do anything he wants to you.

Dishonest and unethical doctor who just cares about money. His C3R did not work and that is why insurance doesn't pay for it. He pretends to be attacked by other ophthalmologists because they know what a clown he is, promoting unapproved treatments for desperate patients who are in fear of losing vision. Get a second opinion at Jules Stein or USC and you'll notice the difference in care immediately.

My son at age 17 was diagnosed with Keratoconus in 2010. We discovered he had severe Keratoconus after he failed his vision test at DMV. We thought he just need new glasses. We were shocked to learn that even with the best pair of glasses or contacts he couldn't see the 20/40 line, which is what would be needed to pass the DMV vision test. Because his Keratoconus was so bad, his local eye doctors in TN immediately wanted him to schedule for a cornea transplant. Thankfully we found Dr. Brian. Today my son had his 9 year eye exam and he is 100% stable and with his scleral contact lenses he sees 20/15 - AMAZING. The staff are great. Still to this day when I send over my son's annual exam they answer all my questions. Dr. Brian was so thorough in explaining what the treatments would accomplish and why sclearl lenses would be the best option. While we were a little scared about traveling from TN to CA we found the process easy. The staff helped us coordinate all the follow-up care with a local doctor in TN who then fit my son with the best contacts. Wait time was a little long at times but I would expect that for an expert. Hands down I would say go visit Dr Brian after all he is the best given he began these treatments in 1999.

Excellent work. I had a couple of procedures done about a year ago and the amazing thing about that no pain during and after the procedures. All went well and after the procedures, I scored a nearly 20/20 vision with no aid. I would definitely go back to Dr. Brian if have to do those procedures over again :))
