I can not say enough good things about Dr. Aitken. I started seeing him after I married. My husband and his family had seen Dr. Aitken all their lives. Seeing a new doctor can be very intimidating but he was the kindest and gentlest doctor I have ever had. He was so compassionate through my first misscarriage and I will never forget it. He is truly one of a kind and I still miss him. I have run into him shopping at Sobeys and he still remembers his old patients with a great big smile. You can't help but hug him.

I too had this doctor from the time I was born till mid twenties when I left home. I dearly miss having him as a doctor. He was the absolute best! Once when I was away at college I was suffering an odd and unknown ailment and 3 different local doctors had failed to diagnose it. I called Dr. Aitken on the phone (!) and not only was he willing to discuss my health on the phone, but he was able to diagnose in second what all the other doctors had missed, and following his advice I shortly felt better. He actually cared about his patients, and you knew you could trust him. I heard that he was forced to retire because of some policy regarding his age - I can only think of a few worse things that bureacracy has done to humanity than that. I have yet to find a doctor who excels in every area of patient care like he did. I doubt I ever will.

Learning that Dr. Aitken was retiring was a sad day for me. Having seen him from childhood until shortly before the birth of my first child, I don't believe there will ever be a more wonderful family doctor as Dr. Aitken (and I've not found one). He not only knew us all by name, he KNEW us, and this knowledge allowed him to diagnose with high accuracy. His high spirits and endless energy made an appointment with Dr. Aitken a pleasure--even if you were feeling rotten! The one time I doubted him and went to another doctor, a year later, I found myself on the very medication he had suggested (which solved my problem). His compassion and soft heart were evident (right down to the way he'd pass off the needles---couldn't stand to see the little ones wail!) I don't know what Dr. Aitken is doing now, but I hope he's enjoying a well-deserved retirement. I know that when he does leave this earth, the Lord will be saying to him, "Well done, my good and faithful servant"!!
