Dr. Herman is a quirky individual with a unique sense of humor! But honestly his bedside manner is and should be irrelevant when finding a good psychiatrist. You are not looking for someone with empathy, you are looking for a doctor who can help make you feel better through medication management. I would prefer someone like Dr. House over anyone else, and you should too. With that said, Dr. Herman is extremely caring and empathetic. On my first time meeting him I began crying. He told me he could have retired by now but that he is still in practice to help patients like me. I have never had a doctor make me feel so hopeful.

Why should you really choose Dr. Herman as your psychiatrist? I have been through countless psychiatrists to try and manage my Bipolar, Panic, ADHD, PTSD and Substance Abuse disorders. When I say countless I have literally lost count but probably around 10 by now. I have felt like a guinea pig and tried medications and different combinations of medications for roughly 21 years now. I have never felt better and more stable than now, after working with Dr. Herman. Dr. Herman listens to your concerns and choosing medications is always a team effort. Dr. Herman also wants you to be educated and provides you with the resources in order to educate yourself. Dr. Herman is not only intelligent but informed and up to date with the current research. To prove this he will actually show you the research during your session. This not only proves that he will take his time during your sessions but that he is well informed. I have never felt rushed while meeting with him.

Dr. Herman also gives you various ways you can contact him whether it be by phone or through an online patient portal where you can send him a quick message. I have never had a doctor respond to any of my concerns so quickly. He actually wants you to inform him as to how you are doing between sessions and responds promptly. If you are not doing well he will suggest an appointment sooner than your scheduled appointment to address any concerns. When I have run out of medications he will make sure to send the script for a refill to your pharmacy within the same day.

Although I usually only take the time to write negative reviews online I really feel Dr. Herman is worth my time to write a positive review. I cannot suggest a better doctor than Dr. Herman.

This guy is rude, his office is a mess, and he just pulls surveys from the internet for you to take. He tries to be funny but comes off as a moron.

This pompous ass could really use someone knocking him down a few pegs. What kind of doctor has a cluttered office and doesn't wear shoes?? When you question his ridiculous bipolar diagnosis he completely shuts down and gets defensive. There is no back and forth discussion.

All of reviews I seen posted are very, very true. I have been a patient at Spectrum for over 5 years and from my experience the only doctor that anybody(including myself) has trouble with is Dr. Herman. He relies on number scales and questionnaires and is extremely condescending. He is rude, callous, crass, and uninterested in his patient's recovery. His sessions are usually kept brief and are very rushed. You are obviously not his top priority. His comments are borderline abusive and make your skin crawl. This man should not be working in mental health. Thank God for his staff who do their best to 'manage' this pompous creep!

I would like to state for the record that Dr. Herman is quite possibly the most irresponsible doctor that I have ever worked with. Dr. Herman lacks both the bedside manner that comes with working with mental health, and even more worrisome is his lack of interest in his patients and his inability to bear responsibility of the medications that he prescribes, as a patient when I asked simple questions about my medication, his response was reliably to refer to a website which presents patients with the concept that not taking your medication at your doctor prescribed dose is a good idea. Many times after browsing the website I found links that the doctor who wrote the website that where from unsubstantiated non-medically researched articles.

Further, based on his reliance on this website I cannot reliably trust his prescribing methods and apparent lack of knowledge on the medication that he prescribes. His response to me asking him questions specific to my case was that he had a patient roll of 1800 patients and he lacked the ability to remember or treat each patient with individual recommendations, this is both astounding in his blatant disregard to be responsibility of his patients and unfortunately breaks his Hippocratic oath as I would hope you know a doctor of mental health must be aware of the medications that he prescribes, when it comes to the dose and specifics of a patients history, Dr. Herman does not seem to understand or refuses to accept his responsibility in prescribing medication.

Everything said by the other patients is true. I was his patient for 8 years. He could make my blood boil and then he would go so far as to contact an aquaintance at the Mayo clinic to see if they could help with getting me stabilized. I was a hard case, but he always tried to give me his best. When he closes his eyes he is thinking and retrieving info. to pass along to you. He even tried to tell me jokes and I would email him ones I thought he would like. It was always ineresting to hear the new joke at each appointment. We even exchanged recipies for holiday dinners and any other ones we thought the other might like. I just want to say to you that he is human, just like the rest of us, he has the same ups & downs and smacked out of the field that we do. Yes, he could dress better but, I would rather have a doctor who made the time for me when needed even if he ran late for the next patient then to have a doctor who was dressed up that wouldn't give me the time. Yes there were times that I waited for more than an hour for my turn, but it was my choice to do the waiting. He even referred me to my therapist she is the best thing that has happened to me medically. He was always available after hours through the practice emergency phone number. The doctor I have now is terrible, he doesn't even have an emergency number. I found that out when I had an emergency and finally called my therapist for help. When I mentioned it to him at the next appointment, in a whisper he said yeah, well you go to the ER. He won't return my therapists calls nor will he respond the faxes she sends regarding me. The grass isn't always greener. Considering both doctors I would choose Dr. Herman everytime.

I didn't like the way he is always late getting appointments started (probably because he's busy constantly eating), The way he spoke to me was extremely condescending and rude, and as I brought up concerns he didn't address them the way I expect a health professional to. He treated me as if I was a child and he made me uncomfortable. My latest experience with Dr. Herman, My appointment was at two thirty and at two forty he came out to get the previous patient and I was pushed until three fifteen. Then proceeded to push me out of the office when my concerns were not answered. He seems to get all of his information offline, and I feel as if thats unprofessional. He got sassy with me, when I told him that he was not helpful. I won't be going back and I would recommend anyone to stay away from him unless you're a fan of the guess and check method. which I personally, am not. The staff on the other hand, was quite nice and polite though I feel like his practice as a whole is unorganized.

TMS coordinator Aleigh is very professional, efficient and caring. That being said, Dr. Herman who is now in "charge" of the TMS program at Spectrum Behavorial health is not. I found him to be unprofessional as a doctor. His appearance is at best described as disheveled. Eating his lunch as he introduced himself to me. I not sure why he chose a profession where it would be his job to help people in need. He is not a people person. He should have chosen where he did not have contact with people in any way. He does not seem to be interested at all in helping people who in need of TMS treatment. He seems to be more interested in the money. He is not willing to help u in any way to acquire help through to their "patient assistant" program or even if u have insurance he want the patient to pay up front, which is not possible for many people. I have Medicare and APS insurance, which Spectrum Behavioral Heath says the accept according to their web site. Much mor to say but no more characters!

Dr. Herman is rude, rude, rude!!! Totally unprofessional in both his appearance and his demeanor. Always runs behind on his appointments and then is totally condescending and obnoxious when he is dealing with you. Will not go the extra mile for his patients. Anything that is outside of his agenda is an inconvenience. Definitely NOT a people person!!!! Not really sure how this man can be in the business of helping people when apparently he could use some help himself.

Completely unprofessional; running over an hour behind schedule, condescending, inept, did not know what medications he had prescribed from previous visit. I wouldn't trust this man to change a tire on my car, let alone take his advice on what psychotropic drugs I should be using for his lame diagnostic process.
