Dr. Judelson now works at Victoria Eye in Victoria BC. My optometrist referred me to him as my vision was getting worse. I had a number of tests and appointments and he said there was some swelling at the back of my retina and prescribed my two kinds of eyedrops to perhaps ease the selling. After about 3 months of taking the drops and about $600 in prescription costs and revisiting him he referred me to a retinal specialist which took about a month. He determined I had a hole in both my retinas and need vitrectomy surgery. He said no wonder the drops didn't work because he misdiagnosed me.

He lives in BC NOW retired during Covid, sold his building an cleared off my partner was on his list for treatment.
We heard nothing about this and only found out when I attend Pasqua and inquired about him.
Otherwise he was at times outstanding if somewhat reticent. Although other times really chatty but then we all have issues to deal with.
The general public contains some real headache cases.
Most 1* reviews seem to compete for objectionable ability

Dr. Judelson did my lens replacements this year. He put in the pano lens with amazing results. He is punctual, to the point and VERY good at what he does. He may not be the doctor who you can joke with but when under these very serious operating conditions it is “no joke”. Under his almost shy exterior, I found him to be very kind and considerate, highly skilled and very professional. I am very grateful to have had him do my surgery and aside from some halos at night (which were expected) I could not be happier with Dr. Judelson and the results. Would not hesitate to recommend him to everyone.

I saw Dr Judelson 20 years ago for my LASIK surgery. I have been old by several optometrists the flap where the incision was made is virtually undetectable it was such an amazing job! I am now seeing him for dry eye disease likely due to hormonal changes as a 50+ woman. He is the same professional, exceptional, caring surgeon I remember. The receptionist and assistant Jocelyn only complements the professionalism of this office with her own high standard of care for their patients! Even during Covid which has made things so difficult. Thank you to both of these individuals for all you do to help others! 👍

Before I went to Dr. Judelson I was warned by my GP that he was "eccentric" and had a brusque bedside manner, which I found odd because I've never had my GP warn me before a referral to a specialist. If anything, he understated things, but I also heard he was quick to get into and a very competent surgeon, so I went to him anyways.

Within the first ten minutes of my first appointment, he accused both my spouse and I about lying about the details of my previous four eye surgeries (???) completely out of the blue with absolutely no basis. I questioned how he came up with his "findings" and he got very defensive and started raising his voice, and it was shaking with anger, so I wisely just kept my mouth shut and put up with his unprofessional and bizarrely insulting behavior.

I completely stunned, and had it in my mind that someone so, frankly, just plain weird, and displaying such obvious traits of narcissism/"God Complex" to such an extreme, and accuse us of lying for no reason whatever (we weren't, as my records showed if he'd even bothered to check), but my spouse convinced me to push ahead anyways because of the wait to see any other ophthalmologist in town.

The surgery itself was absolutely harrowing. Right from the start it was unnerving, with operatic music *cranked* in the OR (I guess to put him at ease as I'm sure I'm not alone as a patient in thinking that it sure did not put me at ease). As he operated, he *screamed*, not so he could be heard above the music, and not frustration either, but out of out-of-control anger, through the entire surgery that I wasn't opening my eye up wide enough (I was opening my eyelids so hard that it was starting to hurt a bit even), and the few times I blinked as well he screamed, "DON'T BLINK!!!!!!" and "STOP BLINKING". During my previous eye surgeries, including one that lasted 4 hours, I wasn't as stressed out as during this surgery, and was told in previous surgeries that if I needed to close my eye, or to blink, just to raise my hand a bit (which is only practical especially when reflex blinking is an automatic action when something is about to come in contact with an eye, such as a scalpel). The whole surgery was incredibly stressful; it felt like a scene from "A Clockwork Orange" almost. I was the longest hour of my life, bar none.

Some commenters here have surmised from all the glowing ratings that Dr. Judelson must have changed his ways/improved his bedside manner, but my procedure took place long after a lot of the positive comments, so I'm afraid he has not. I will give him for sure that he is knowledgeable and capable surgeon, but I would not recommend him to anyone unless that person has nerves of steel, or are in a coma.

In any other profession out there someone behaving like Dr. Judelson does, and apparently reading these comments, my case was far from an isolated one, would be reprimanded with a verbal or written warning, and if the offending behavior didn't change, they'd be fired. Doctors seem to be immune to that kind of scrutiny unfortunately (and if the College of P&Ss has intervened in the past, it sure hasn't seemed to make any difference). Even on knowledge I could only give a 3, because knowledge alone means nothing if you can't, or won't, I'm not sure which in this case, apply that knowledge in a successful way. No matter how talented of a surgeon someone maybe, cranking music during a surgery to 11 and screaming near constantly through a surgery is completely unacceptable to me at least. Again, unless you have incredibly steady nerves, avoid, avoid, avoid.

Dr J. took sufficient time in diagnosing dry eye disease, performed the necessary treatments very professionally and prescribed OTC eye drops that changed my comfort. Highly recommended by myself a practicing Registered Nurse. SS

Very efficient with keeping appointments on time. Knowledgeable yet doesn't waste your time. Surgery was performed ok on the first eye and excellent on the second eye.
