After Lasik 2/2013 severe dry eye;was told it rarely happens, improves w/in 6months; even w/lacrimal duct plugs my vision required glasses because "eyes are dry". My eyes were never dry before. Obviously they're dry, my reason for appt. He's arrogant & insensitive. My problem was minimized&never resolved. 16months after Lasik~wearing glasses, can't see well in dusk/dark, now w/severe dry eyes causing discomfort all day. I'm unable to open eyes in am because of excessively dry eyes! Upon awakening eyeballs are stuck (yes, stuck) to eye lid, only able to open once eyedrops lubricate & separate surfaces. I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE MY OLD HYDRATED EYES BACK! Use caution - when giving consent & discussing possible risks. When I was reading & asking questions, Dr.Winthrop sighs, rolls eyes, chuckles stating "don't worry about that stuff. We have to say it. It never happens. The data is from old research. Outdated info. That stuff doesn't happen w/ new technology".... NOT TRUE, IT HAPPENS!! I'M PROOF.

Winthrop payed very little time with me during my visit early in the morning. I was signing a long form and I asked him what it meant and he told me people my age (22) should not be concerned with such things. I found him very arrogant. He was not very sympathetic to my cause.

I went to Dr. W for several years due to his good reputation, and one day he was in surgery and was replaced by another doctor who suddenly diagnosed me with glaucoma, gave me 3 meds, stated that I may become impotent and probably should have eye surgery. Afterwards, I requested my patient records but they stated that they no longer had my patient records!

I did the Lasik surgery on my left eye and the PRK on my right eye in the summer. I had been checking for 3 years and getting eye exams to see if Lasik was suitable for me. Due to the cornea of my right eye that's too thin, they refused to do the surgery for me 3 years ago. 3 years later they said they could only do the PRK on my right eye because they didn't want to take the risk. Yet I saw other doctor somewhere else and he was pushing me to do the Lasik and ignoring the thickness of the cornea of my right eye. Therefore, I felt Dr. Winthrop's analysis was more reliable. Yes, he is kind of stoic, not very social and not a guy to have a beer with, but he is very confident and careful in making decisions. I actually received 2 phone calls from him after the surgery. The result was even much better than expected! He did a very good calculation on my such difficult case. Staff are also friendly and helpful: They explained to me thoroughly of the options that I could choose from, etc.

Dr. Winthrop botched my LASIK surgery big-time and failed to reveal the extent of the damage done to my eye. I find him to have a terrible bedside manner and a huge ego, which made my earnest attempts to find solutions to repair my eyes in the aftermath very frustrating.
