Extremely disappointed. DO NOT recommend going to Dr. Silpa. Very poor bedside manners. The doctor asked personal and invasive questions and did not tie to anything to do with the condition. Some questions asked were (Where are you from?, Who do you live with? What do you do for a living? …and questions about genetalia and reproductive organs)

There were 0 questions about what could have caused this condition. But, he was quick to recommend endoscopy and ultrasound. Also, did not mention that an endoscopy would involve going under general anesthesia.

His office questionnaires were collecting personal data that had no basis on diagnosis or treatment. For Eg: Provide a list of ‘All’ surgeries you’ve ever had. Also, patient intake forms do not include options for preferred names or pronouns.

He's a wonderful doctor. I go to him in Alameda. It's a breath of fresh air to go to a true expert.

I left the area a few years ago and have never found a doctor I liked as well as Dr. Silpa. He was compassionate and caring and knew his stuff. He helped me a great deal.

Could never hope to find a kinder, more efficient and more professional doctor. Wears a rose in his lapel (often), reminds me of the great late Canadian Prime Minister, Pierre Elliot Trudeau. Always in a great mood, with a wonderful sense of humour and a gentleness one rarely finds these days.

This doctor is one of the most hard-working physicians in Alta Bates, and one of the most trusted by staff and patients alike. More than 2 years after he'd looked after me, he was delighted to provide a letter to explain what he'd found, and he never charged me for the letter. As far as I'm concerned, Dr. Silpa is second-to-none, as a person and as a physician.

I met Silpa in Spring 2004 at Alta Bates when I was caring for a friend with end-stage liver disease due to Hepatitis C. Silpa told us that Hep C patients could not receive a liver transplant because the new organ would degenerate from the Hep C. We later found out cirrhosis due to Hep C is the leading cause of liver transplants in adults! Dr. Silpa had not bothered to keep up in his field. He also made a note in my friend's chart: "He states that alcohol was a problem in the distant past, but he has not had alcohol for several years. It is interesting that his AST to ALT ratio is 2:1, typical for alcohol use." In fact, my friend had not taken a drink in 25 years. I have known him for many years, and would stake my life on this. But Silpa casually jeopardized my friend's chances at a liver transplant by including this note in the written records we later had to furnish to Cal-Pac transplant center for evaluation. Thankfully the folks at Cal-Pac were more reasonable than Silpa!
