Dr McWhorter and his entire staff are very caring and helpful as well as professional. I needed some lab work done for another doctor and Dr. McWhorter's staff went above and beyond to get it taken care of for me very quickly so that there would be time for the results to come back before my next appointment. Excellent service!

Dr McWhorter literally saved my life recently. For 6 months, I had severe blood pressure spikes & rapid heart rate several times daily in addition to other symptoms. It ultimately led to a mild stroke. The family physician we were using at the time put me on medications but never addressed the cause. My thyroid med was changed, but the high BP continued. I remembered that both my parents (one of Welsh descent & one Scandinavian) had pernicious anemia. I was told that I couldn't possibly have PA because blood tests showed my B12 was normal. I kept getting worse & decided to change doctors. I chose Dr McWhorter. He LISTENED, understood pernicious anemia, did more pertinent testing & started me on a protocol. I am getting my life back & give Dr McWhorter full credit. He is wonderful at looking at the cause of symptoms & seeking natural remedies when possible. I will be forever grateful. His staff is wonderful & caring as well.

Dr. McWhorter and his staff are amazing. They access each patient's individual health needs and customize a wellness plan. Dr. McWhorter focuses on healing the mind and body by use of supplements and nutrition. In doing so,  getting to the root of the problem rather than always writing prescriptions that simply mask the underlying issue. I am very thankful for the caring well trained staff at Alabama Functional Medicine. In my own health, they have given me the knowledge and nutritional changes needed to put Autoimmune disease in remission and calm nervousness and anxiety without prescription medication. They have also been successful in removing copper from my clinically diagnosed ADHD child's body and thus allowing her to focus as a normal child. I would recommend Dr. McWhorter and his staff to anyone willing to change their lifestyle to become healthier and reverse disease.

I went in with a migraine, and left with 80% improvement, all in a matter of one regular office visit. No need for ER visit, IV or pain meds. Dr. McWhorter asked lots of questions, listened to me, and faced me during the entire visit (rather than looking at his computer). He has explained some real issues that I have dealt with for many years and I am finally getting somewhere (health wise). His knowledge of women's health, general wellness and brain chemistry has surpassed any medical advice or treatment I have received to date. I am thankful I can go to him for advice, urgent care needs and prevention of long term illness. His educational meetings have taught me so much. I wish I could get my entire family in to see him.

Dr McWhorter suggested he inject my surgical scar from a surgery I had over a year ago with Procaine to alieviate the chronic aching surround the scar. Not only did the Procaine injection provide temporarily relief, I have yet to have any reoccurring aching around my scar. He mentioned that in some cases Procaine has a long term pain management benefit for chronic pain and in my case it has benefitted me very well. I highly suggest speaking with Dr McWhorter about receiving a Procaine injection as a first step in resolving chronic pain!

I came to Dr. McWhorter in bad shape. Despite having a regular care physician I had not been receiving the testing and treatment I needed. I had been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia after years of overall body pain, exhaustion, fatigue and weight gain. Other doctors offered me pain medications and antidepressants, and told me to go on low-fat diets and exercise more. I had no energy to exercise at all and felt as if every breath was a struggle. My issues worsened as I tried to follow the instructions of these doctors. Then I heard about Dr. McWhorter.

The first day I spoke with Dr. McWhorter he showed extreme concern for my condition. At that point I had also begun having issues remembering even common words. Words like "and," "fork," "left," would escape me. This was not good, and it was affecting my work. He immediately put me on a grain-free, high fat diet. Within a week my cognitive function was back to normal. Within the month I had begun to lose weight. I was able to wake up in the mornings instead of sleeping until past Noon, or falling asleep at my desk. The pain I had lived with for years began to fade. I had more energy and was well on my way to being a healthier version of me.

On my next visit I brought printouts from the website of an English doctor who had found 80-some-odd percent of his Fibromyalgia patients were actually thyroid patients with a Reverse T3 imbalance, and they did much better once properly medicated for thyroid disease. Instead of telling me to stop reading things on the internet, Dr. McWhorter said, "You know what? I've heard of that, let's check it." At my follow up visit he confirmed my lab work showed I have the very Reverse T3 imbalance mentioned in the research I had given him. He had also tested my Vitamin D levels ... no other doctor had ever done this for me ... and found I was actually below the accepted normal range. My Vitamin D was so low he started me on 10,000IU daily! It took months to get me in range. With proper, targeted treatments I got even better.

I have never had another doctor really listen to me the way Dr. McWhorter does. With most other doctors I have felt as if they were dismissing me as a hypochondriac, and just sending me on my way with a prescription for antidepressants. With Dr. McWhorter, the only prescriptions I take now are my Natural Dessicated Thyroid medicine and Cytomel/T3. I am completely free of antidepressants, and only take OTC pain meds when I have a headache. I honestly hate to imagine where I would be today without this compassionate, diligent doctor.

I have been seeing Dr. McWhorter for years. His staff now seems to not care at all. You can't get anyone to return your call. There is no one to explain all the insurance changes I do not know why he doesn't have his staff trained. This has happened to a lot of my friends who are patients also. Seriously considering changing Doctors.

My wife and I starting seeing this doctor sometime back. My wife complain about her blood pressure staying high. He would only say, it's what you putting in your mouth". Although he gave her some medications, it never resolve the issue. We went to see a hypertension doctor and after several tests, and a change of medications, there have not been any problems with her blood pressure. As for me, he acted as if though he never wanted to touch you, always stayed behind his laptop computer. it was decided that we find another doctor as he was not the one for us.
