I saw Dr. Beaver in emerg to get a specialist's referral for an ongoing 3+year gastro issue. I did have a prior referral where no diagnosis was made. My symptoms have worsened tremendously. Dr. Beaver was very reluctant to make the referral and basically told me that I would have to live with the symptoms. My lifestyle has been altered significantly because of my health. I definitely felt not heard and dismissed by his inability to hear what I was really saying. He offered me nothing. Needless to say this was a very upsetting and an unproductive visit. It is hard enough being so sick and also having to deal with medical people who are ill equipped to see the whole patient.
On a side note, a wonderful nurse talked to me as I was leaving and gave me the validation that I needed.

My Wife, Son and I saw Dr. Beaver in the hospital tonight. He was calm, and informative. Most of all he was able to help, and ease our minds about our son. My wife and I were happy to see him, and hopefully get to run into him again in the future.

I have been his patient for many years and I have found him to be very caring and sensitive to my needs. Even though I have some complicated health issues he tries hard to help me manage various challenges. He is also very willing to refer to a specialist when needed. I think he is very dedicated to providing the best health care available to his patients. I am pleased to have him for my doctor.

Dr. Beaver has been my doctor for several years and I have nothing but good words to say for him. He is caring, compassionate & patient. Over the 30 years I have resided on Salt Spring I have had several doctors who all left the island. I was very grateful and feel fortunate that Dr. Beaver agreed to add me to his patient list.

I have always found Dr. Beaver to be kind, compassionate, respectful and professional. Even though he may not agree with my alternative approach to self healthcare, he's completely respectful of it and willing to work with me on it. He's thorough, explains things well, and is not pushy or controlling like some doctors. He's been my doc for over 12 years and I trust his medical opinion. As far as looking at the computer goes, that's how doctors do their charting these days; he also researches topics as needed to get as much information as possible on the particular issue at hand. I have great respect for him and would highly recommend him. Some staff at the office are a bit brusque/impatient at times. Jane is an angel though!

I have only dealt with dr beaver in the Er. But he saved me so much pain. It took me more than half a year and seven trips to Er (other drs ) for my appendicitis to be diagnosed. He sent me right away to Vic for surgery as it was about to burst. I will forever be greatful.

No eye contact, always consulting his computer, does not give much time, even if he is always late for your appointment. once he told you what he wanted to tell you, he obviously expect you to leave. he is not very pleasant. He has the god syndrome; do not tell him what you saw on internet, he is going to become nasty. I am stock with him for the moment...
