We painfully had a family member committed in order to get them the treatment he deserved (dementia/Alzheimers). The state allowed for a 7 day commitment, then release. Dr Trahan did not see him the first 6 days, then after I pleaded with his staff, he finally went to see him on the last night. Said he was fine. Lazy, lacked compassion, arrogant, snarky. No way would trust him with a loved one’s care.

Dr James R. Trahan’s unprofessional and snarky approach to my daughter was mind boggling. Google would have been more help. That this man has a license to practice is first, destructive for his patients, and second, a sad lense of the mental health industry in this state. - JEmblen

Very rude and unprofessional staff. The doctor did nothing and charges me $300 for one visit, and told me nothing. All he cares about is getting your money. Very poor doctor. Would not recommend to anyone.

Shouldn't be in the field of psychiatry where you need to think about each person you see as an individual case, not a one size fits all approach.

Dr. Trahan should not be a doctor. He gets zero stars. He doesn’t care about you as a person or your personal growth. He talked to me for about 5 minutes at the hospital and misdiagnosed me with bipolar disorder. I was only 18 years old and to hear that shattered my heart because I knew I wasn’t bipolar I just had a traumatic past because I was sexually abused by my alcoholic father and my bipolar mother emotionally and physically abused me. I had symptoms of posttraumatic stress and I was drinking a lot and smoking a lot to cope with pain and damage my parents caused. I was young and I didn’t know any better but Dr. Trahan didn’t even care he said I was bipolar and kept me in the hospital for two weeks. He threatened me if I didn’t take the meds I would have to go back to the hospital and i have to see him for one year. That year was the worst year of my life. he kept changing my meds and i am not bipolar and so the meds drained me physically and mentally and i gained 50 pounds. I was miserable but then one day it clicked in my head to find a new doctor and get help. so i did and i never looked back and Dr. Trahan sucks and needs to leave the medical field for what he does to people. He probably has damaged so many other lives by misdiagnosing people. I now am still suffering from the traumatic experience and now i am medication free and i am continuing to heal through running, yoga, friends, and good therapy and working at a homeless shelter. I have down days because of my traumatic past but I am trying to stay positive and my goal is to continue to live a happy positive life. Dr. Trahan didn’t care about my story or me as a person. He is terrible for what he did and I had to suffer for one year and I still am very hurt but I am forgiving but Dr. Trahan should not be a psychiatrist. There needs to be more caring psychiatrists who actually know what their doing and not just prescribing meds to people to get money. Most mental illnesses stem from traumatic experiences or childhood trauma. There needs to be better psychiatrists out there that are more understanding of trauma and provide therapy because there are other alternatives to treating mental illness besides just prescribing meds and most psychiatrists don’t know what their doing, they just want to make money. The more meds they prescribe, the more money they make. Kinda messed up and people are suffering because of this.

Misdiagnosed me with no real evaluation and this mistake has been causing me nothing but trouble. Gave me meds that I had adverse reaction to and had to go to family doctor to have them see this. He is arrogant and rude. Had a real physiological evaluation which proved he was wrong and stopped all meds. Haven't had an issue since. I only had a panic attack not bipolar!

I saw him hospital two years ago. treated me ok.
Saw him this week.
More or less said you need to get control of your depression with suicidal feelings even though you have not carried it out or have failed. If not you will get worse. Nice seeing you

As a professional working in mental health, I worked with several individuals who received a rock-bottom standard of care from Trahan; some of his actions may amount to malpractice or at the least a concerning disregard for high (or even expected) levels of ethical conduct. When my daughter was admitted to Mary Greeley and we had to fight tooth and nail (and lost) to keep her on the medications that had been tweaked patiently over years (one med change had recently been tried and had an adverse effect, hospitalization was for re-stabilization and safety), I was not surprised to discover Trahan was the supervising psychiatrist. After she started hallucinating, engaging in self-harm and threatening staff, they finally conceded that maybe they were wrong. Maybe. We transferred her immediately, as even then they continued to deny her the medications she had been stable on.
