Had two total knee replacements in 2022, one in March and the second one in August. Dr Chow is an excellent surgeon. He gave me my life back after being on a cane for 5 years, barely able to walk anywhere due to pain. Within 3 weeks of my surgeries I was off my pain medication and within just a few more weeks I almost had complete mobility. And now I have 100% mobility. I can't thank him and his staff enough for the excellent job they all do.

If you expect your doctor to be thorough, to take the time to explain the diagnosis, and to make an attempt at civility, AVOID Dr. Chow. He talked over me when I tried to give details about my knee pain and made little eye contact. After a five minute exam, he started writing a referral for physical therapy. When I asked for a bit more explanation of where my knife-like pain was coming from, he rapidly shot a bunch of medical jargon at me, interspersed with "OK?"..."OK?" He came off as very agitated and unprofessional.

I'm not an idiot -- I'm a Johns Hopkins grad student with a background in clinical research, and I still couldn't tell you what he said aside from "I'm referring you to physical therapy, but it might not do anything." For all I know, his diagnosis may be spot on, but I can't trust it until I get a second opinion.

(Oh! He DID see some sort of lesion on my MRI, which he quickly described as a "benign" something or other, but by then, I knew better than to ask for any further detail.)
I would honestly rank this as the worst MD appointment I've ever had.

I had Dr.Chow do a knee replacement for me. He's excellent. I would recommend him to anyone. My knee is perfect, no pain at all. If you see the X-ray it is a textbook repair. Thanks, L. Westbrook

Dr Chow replaced my right hip on June 14, 2011, his surgery was excellent. During my annual reviews at UCLA (I no longer live in Dr. Chow's area) since the surgery the doctors have given his work rave reviews "text book perfect". I did not have any pain after the surgery
and I am so grateful for his care.

LOVE this doctor! An amazing surgeon; he gave my husband his knee back:-) For those with a dry sense of humor, you'll leave the office with a smile. The office staff knows their stuff; they're an example of how a medical office SHOULD run...friendly and efficient! I wish he was a PCP because I'd switch to his practice in a second!

After my MIR reading I saw Dr. Chow three times and he inform me that I had a small rotator cuff tear in my shoulder, each time I saw him he was very rude, impatient, very unconcern of my pain or complains, interrupt me wen I was trying to explain to him the pain in my shoulder,in addition he repeatedly told me that the tear it was not that bad for me to complained so much, and ignored my complains . I requested to be switched to Dr. Rice because at that point I did not trust him, and he make me felt very uncomfortable with his rudeness and him raising his voice at me when I was trying to describe what I felt. Dr. Rice did my surgery in my shoulder and also found a tendon in my bisect torn in addition to the "deep" tear in my rotator cuff. No I will not ever recommend Dr. Chow to no one. Dr. Chow needs to learn bed site manners, compassion, pay attention in patients complaints, don't rush the patients out of the office, needs to be patience, we are people, not animals.

This doctor did not even listen to my concerns. He seemed to have a prejudice to me right away and was very condescending throughout my appointment. I will never go see him again.

I needed knee surgery for several years. It was bone on bone and my leg was starting to bow out. My primary dr. Referred me to Dr Chow. I felt at ease with him from the start. I was overweight when i first saw him so I waited 2years while i lost 60 pounds. He did not tell me to do this but I thought it would be better. When I saw my leg in the hospital I couldn't believe it. It was perfectly straight and the knee felt like iron. It has been 9 weeks and I am walking without a cane or walker. The muscles in my legs are getting stronger. He referred me to Apple Valley Therapy and they are bringing me along in a timely manner with very little pain. I had heard so many horror stories about knee surgery. But when you have the right doctor there is nothing to fear. I wouldn't have anyone but Dr Chow.
