Had surgery done by Dr Farooq and I am so grateful it was him. He's so kind and caring and knowledgeable. He took the time to talk to my partner after surgery and explain everything. Such a great experience!

I was referred to Dr. Farooq by my family physician for treatment of a pilonidal cyst near my tailbone. Dr. Farooq seemed very familiar with the problem and recommended surgery to remove the cyst. I was hesitant because he said the rate of recurrence was about 30% and the recovery would take about a month. I thought about it for several months and then went back for another consult. These cysts do not go away without surgical intervention so I didn't see that I had much choice but to have the surgery. The staff at the Fort Sask hospital were great and Dr. Farooq seemed confident about the procedure. He called my wife while I was in recovery and told her everything went fine, although he never did reach out to me to discuss the details. The pain wasn't too bad afterwards and I had the stitches out after 2 weeks. He had said it should be healed after a month and the incision was in fact closed after a month. But I couldn't sit comfortably for more than a few minutes. After 3 months, there was no improvement so I went back to Dr. Farooq. He said this was unusual and sent me for a CT scan which was appreciated. The CT showed no evidence of the cyst and no other issues. That's great, but still no explanation for why I was still in pain. After the CT scan, I didn't hear anything further from Dr. Farooq. It has now been 7 months and I still can't sit or lay on my back without pain. It is significantly affecting my quality of life and I don't even know what my options are other than to wait for it to heal on its own. I found some online communities with many people who have pilonidal disease and I learned that the procedure Dr. Farooq used is very outdated and is known to cause lengthy healing times and various complications. I should have sought out a pilonidal specialist to have the surgery instead of a general surgeon. He may be great for other types of surgery, but if you have pilonidal disease, I would not recommend going to Dr. Farooq. Even if you have to travel to another province or go to the US, find someone who is experienced with the latest surgical techniques (cleft lift). Surgery in the tailbone area is very tricky and if it goes wrong, it can be a nightmare. You don't realize how much you take sitting for granted until you can't do it anymore.

An absolutely outstanding Dr & person. Having my 3 procedure with him in 2024. He ensured my certified service dog had a plan for procedure & recovery before I left office. Went the extra mile!!!

Really negative experience with Dr. Farooq. He made me wait hours for a scheduled fasted procedure for an upper gi scope, which required me to be put under. His fraudulent diagnostic report included a misdiagnosis for a non existent issue in a completely separate organ (that wasn't visible from the scope). Negligent care. Misdiagnosis. Lack of following procedure. And im still not sure why I had to remove all of my clothes for a camera to go down my throat.

I confronted the doctor about the misdiagnosis (backed up by a previous separate ultrasound report on my file) and when he saw me enter his clinic that day he looked like he'd seen a ghost. He was apprehensive to even discuss my concerns of misdiagnosing. Not sure why he was seemingly scared of a kind and gentle patient . It seemed he had some guilt manifesting in his demeabor. He continued gaslighting the patient-- acting condescending.

I would not recomend seeing this doctor.

According to staff at the ft sask hospital - there is 1 reputable surgeon and 1 terrible surgeon. I'll let you guess which one Dr. Omar Farooq is known as by his colleagues....

Dr. Farooq conducted the removal of my gallbladder. I followed his instructions for surgery prep, got called for the surgery, and am now recovering. He answered my questions, and checked in with me several times before the actual surgery I feel that I was very well taken care of. I would happily go back to Dr. Farooq with any health concerns I have in the future (If he was accepting patients).

Dr Farooq was a welcomed positive and reassuring presence when I met him in the emergency room in the Fort Saskatchewan Hospital. My appendix was wanting a divorce and he was the designated mediator. After a quick exam, he told me what he believed to be the problem and quickly confirmed it with a CT scan. I was so impressed with his knowledge, his ability, and his genuine caring. I feel very fortunate to have been treated by this wonderful man. Thank you very much for your skills and your caring, you turned a potential emergency into a positive experience that I will not forget. Our health system benefits greatly from individuals who care as much as Doctor Farooq! Many blessings to you Sir!
