Disputed Plastic Surgeon Accuses Ex-partner Of Slander
By Jane M. Von Bergen, Inquirer Staff Writer

A dispute between two competing groups of plastic surgeons spilled into the Camden courts this week when a doctor filed suit against his former partner, accusing him of slander and defamation.

Dr. Joseph H. Reichman and his current partner, Dr. Gary M. Brownstein, filed suit against Reichman's former partner, Dr. Arthur S. Brown, who is now the chairman of Cooper Hospital-University Medical Center's Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Their suit said that Brown and his current partner, Dr. Lenora Barot - also a defendant in the suit - began in February to circulate rumors among nurses, staff, physicians and patients designed to "maliciously defame and slander" Reichman and Brownstein.

The suit was filed Wednesday in Superior Court in Camden and seeks compensatory and punitive damages. Brown, who otherwise declined to comment, denied that there was a dispute between the two sets of doctors.

According to the suit, Brown and Barot told people that Reichman and Brownstein had committed "medical malpractice" through both their actions and their omissions, particularly when it came to plastic surgery on babies and children.

Those rumors, the suit said, had "interfered with the business and profession" of Reichman and Brownstein's Cherry Hill practice, on Brace Road. In addition, the suit said, Brown and Barot interfered with the Cherry Hill doctors' relationships with patients and with the staff at Cooper Hospital.

In addition to being faculty members at the medical school, Brown and Barot have a plastic-surgery practice at Three Cooper Plaza in Camden.

Reichman went to Cooper in 1981, after his residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. For the next two years, he said, he and Brown were partners in a private plastic-surgery practice and were faculty members.

In 1983, Reichman established his own practice. Reichman would not detail why the two separated, referring questions to his lawyer, who could not be reached yesterday.

"It's actually sad," he said. "There should be other mechanisms to resolve issues such as this. It's unfortunate that there's no other arena."

Dr. Gary Brownstein represented upon our consulation and interview that he was especially skilled and trained in rhinoplasty surgery. He further indicated that the photo rendition he took of my daughter would come out similar if not better than what the demonstrated photo suggested.

My daughter has since had to have Dr. Brownstein redo is work as her first surgery left her with a pointed ball at the tip of her nose along with the crooked shape that we had sought his services to correct. He also does not have the aesthetic talent or ability to sculpt a beautiful nose and left her with too much skin and cartilege on the tip of her nose.

WE then waited a year for everything to settle in before we attempted the second surgery wherein he took extra cartilege from her ear (which was quite painful) to help the nose stay straight and at that time, he was to also correct the excess of the tip. The nose is improved slightly but not at all what a $10,000.00 rhinoplasty should look like from a so called "expert" in the field in Cherry Hill.

I am sorry we chose him out of all the many other doctors we consulted with. He mentioned that he had worked with another very renound Plastic Surgeon in Philadelphia. I am not even sure if he really did from the result of this nose job. I have first hand knowledge of that doctor adn that doctors work and his results were and still are timeless and beautiful. If Dr. Brownstein ever worked with this doctor, his eyes must have been shut. Please do not seek his services out for any rhinoplasty surgery. Possibly, his work on other parts of the body may be fine, but definitely not an expert in aesthetic procedures of the nose from our experience.

Dr Gary Brownstein Cherry Hill M.D Botched Swindler Surgeon, costly, dismissive, disregarding of low/No quality surgical results

Due to a unproportionate leg impairment, I searched for board certified surgeons in Cherry Hill, New Jersey that provided calf augmentation surgery & stumbled upon Dr. Gary Brownstein. During my Initial consultation I expressed my shortcomings & my desire to mend my impairment specifically with calf implantation & was given a price quote of $5, 800 in which I then supplied my down payment & reserved a date for that specific surgery.

During the consultation Dr. Brownstein recommended that I instead go along with an alternative procedure of 'Vaser' liposuction & fat transfer, a technique he prides in developing by extracting "viable autologous fat" & transfering the harvested fat to a requisite area. I was given an extravangant price quote due to the fact that the alternative surgery requires lipo of multiple areas & the fat transfer (let it be known i am a already slender person). I originally declined his recommendation as to my main focus was my soley my bilateral calfs & the alternative procedures was beyond my budget.

After, I was still largely being presented with Dr. Brownstein implication of the vaser lipo & fat transfer in which I did ask if the fat harvested would dimish or simply "melt away" I was told No. I recieved a call from the surgery coordinator Mary Jo that Dr. Vanek permitted a discount to $5, 900 for lipo of the inner thighs & transfered to the bilateral calfs. I was given a whole spiel of the supposed benefits & results I would get with the procedure.

I went to Dr. Gary Brownstein in good faith & put trust in his credentials so I gave in to the recommendation & went for the alternative surgery. I received the surgery at the end of May of this year. Doctor Brownstein was late to my scheduled surgery. As soon as I awoke from surgery in the recovery room I immediately observed my legs to which a volume enhancement on my bilateral calfs was barely noticable & "thigh gap" I was told I was to have, was not present. I mentioned my concern to Dr. Brownstein which responded that he did extract from the area & a thigh gap would show as I heal.

Afterwards during post-surgery follow up appointments I continued to exhaust my concern regarding my lack of result & was always charmingly dismissed by Dr. Brownstein & Sydney, his old hag wife. I was told every excuse from saying for me to just wait 3 months for my final result -to that the reason Dr. Brownstein didnt lipo my inner thighs completely was because he didnt want me to end up with excess skin?? (im 5'5 & slim 120 lbs & never been overweight to even have excess skin) -to the reason I got the result I got was due to my budget; Unjustifiable excuses.

At my last follow up appointment of my 3rd month final result, in which I was left to wait almost an hour before he came to see me, I again addressed the matter gracefully. My final outcome of the recommended surgery was Defective. The supposed viable fat that was transfered did indeed Disintegrate/dissolve & my legs were left to appear exactly as before! I have before & after pics as well as testimony from my mother & everyone who knows me to prove.

I was told by Dr. Brownstein that the only amount of fat extracted & tranfered was the equivalent to a half can of soda! He also said that he told me prior (he did'nt) the not all the fat cells would survive after transfer. Knowing that my surgery was defective & that He insinuated I get the alternative procedure, he & his office representative tried flipping it all around saying that I wasnt forced to go with his recommendation & that it was my choice.

My main focus since the beginning was soley mending the impairment of my bilateral calfs by calf implantation -Not having multiple surgeries using his proclaimed lipo techniques including other parts of my body. He convinced me. I paid in-full thousands for his service to mend the impairment of my bottom legs & got an empty result.

I got ripped off. I go to bed disappointed & wake up disappointed everyday. Dr. Brownstein & his practice are manipulative & disregarding & would not do any revisions for quality or reimburse even a portion of the persons paid expenses regardless of receiving a botched or defective surgery. Karma is real & when it comes & goes around that way -I hope I hear about it.

Botched!!! Dr. Gary Brownstein www.cherryhillcosmeticsurgery.com is more interested in his patients money than he is in the welfare of his patients, I gave plastic surgeon Dr. Brownstein $7300.00 for an upper body lift procedure that had to be cancelled as I was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma insitu which is an early stage of breast cancer. As a result of the cancellation and other mitigating factors, Dr. Brownstein has refused to proceed with the operation even though I have offered him additional funds to cover the cancellation. The topper here is that he has refused to refund my money which was paid in cash. Feel free to contact me for further information regarding this money hungry physician. Nerve Damage and he did not return my calls. Dr. Gary Brownstein,Cherry Hill,NJ. I had a complete cut of 2 of my facial nerves after a facelift by the infamous Dr novack. This was 3 months ago, I was a model and am devastated. My husband tries his best to keep his chin up and encourage me, but all I can do is move on. I went to 2 specialists who told me I need nerve grafts to repair the damage but chances are slim. I am crying as I write this but what makes matters worse and adds insult to injury is that he shunned me as a patient. He doesn't return my phone calls and didn't even consider talking about recompensation.

My co-worker referred me to Dr. Brownstein for a breast augmentation. I was so well informed during my lengthy consultation that I felt comfortable enough to schedule my procedure. It got even better during my 2nd pre op visit. The time and discussion we had concerning how to choose what is right for me had me totally blown away. I couldn't wait for my surgery date! The results are so incredible. For anyone considering plastic surgery, I highly recommend Dr. Brownstein. He is truly the best!
