Saw my son when in Middle School. My son got worse. Dr. Sears was very arrogant and uneducated about how certain meds cause weight gain. Instead, Sage blamed my son, who ate very healthy. I took him to the Head of UCLA Adolescent Psychiatry. He told us that it “wasn’t Rocket Science and that my son was very depressed. He said Dr. Sears not only had him on the WRONG MEDICATION, but even if it was right, it was the WRONG DOSAGE! My son was prescribed a different med and his life turned around dramatically for the better. Dr. Sears is a BAD CHOICE!

After seeing this doctor for a few years my son had a episode at school. He talked about suicide and was extremely emotional. He was on a new medication that the doctor had prescribed. We called Dr Sear's office and asked for an emergency appointment. We were told he had not time and put him on a waiting list. AThis is despite being telling his staff my son was unable to return to school without his clearance and we needed him to be seen ASAP. The doctor not only did not give us an appointment he did not even call us. He had his receptionist call. The next time we heard from his office was 6 weeks later to confirm an appointment we had made before the incident. Needless to say we cancelled that appointment. As it turns out we stopped the new med right after this incident and that stabilized our sons behavior. I cannot understand any rationale for not calling a patient under these circumstances. We saw the doctor for many years - despite the fact that he was really not particularly helpful. However, I am a bit ambivalent about most psychiatry.Most doctors have not changed our sons protocol so really they seem just to be there to write the Rx. However what you really need them for is help in extreme situations. It would have been helpful to know that the new med could have caused this reaction -for example. Bottom Line: Make sure you understand the doctor's protocols for emergencies before you have one.

He is way beyond 5 stars. He saved my life. Before I was referred to him I had seen a number of therapists and psychiatrists over the years. He is profoundly knowledgable and insightful and sincerely cares about how you’re feeling and functioning in your life. He is always very focused on making sure the medication is helping me to live a full life while not overmedicating. H
e is always present and interested in what is going on with me and I always leave with gems of wisdom and clarity. He also works with another family member and helps him immensely. A number of years ago I found a friend of mine who was schizophrenic and had been on the streets for 29 years. He was very frightened and untrusting. Standing by as Dr. Sears guided him back into a life with such expertise and compassion was like witnessing a miracle. A lesser man would have passed. He found the spark of life in my friend and showed me why you don’t give up on people. Erin is at the front desk and is so kind and helpful. She creates a wonderful healing calm in the waiting room.

Dr. Sears treats 2 of my kids, one of whom has a very complex case. He has been helpful and knowledgeable. He's clearly a compassionate person. Highly recommended.

Very caring and takes the time to get to understand his patients. Always on time. Always responds quickly to emails/calls. I have never felt rushed by him. He is very thorough. He cares about all aspects of his patients lives - not just their medication. We travel to see him and have to get up very early to do so -- totally willing to as he is very very good at what he does.

Seems like he just wants you in and out fast so he can maximize what he bills to insurance. He does not take the time to understand the issues to help you find long term solutions. if you just want a quick prescription. he'll be glad to get you in and out in 5 minutes. I can get the same care over the phone from my family doctor without having to pay a copay.

Ok all I have to say is amazing!!!! I love him! He is such a caring Dr. When I see him (always on time) he remembers me and is always there for me to vent/confide in and just extremely helpful. I went through some hard times and he always made me feel like no matter what, I was going to be ok. He never made me felt that I was a bad person or made me feel bad. He was always there any time I needed him. He always called back. Erin up front is the best!!!! I love seeing her when I go in there. She feels like a friend to me. I just think he is the best!! I was recom. to him and it was the greatest blessing!!

He is a wonderful physician and more importantly (to me) a very nice and compassionate person. The best psychiatrist ever....He is very highly touted by everyone, both patients and colleagues.
