I saw Dr. Onkin for many years. He continued a terrible cycle of adding medications and upping dosages and never got to the root of my problem. When I became pregnant, he took me off of several serious medications cold turkey and never gave me any guidance as to what symptoms I may experience or how I could remain healthy for me and my unborn child. I went through Effexor withdrawal cold turkey and benzo withdrawal. He was very negligent and I only wish I had sought out legal assistance during this time. Due to the stress and trauma, I ended up losing this child. PLEASE SEEK OUT A SECOND OPINION IF YOU GO TO THIS DOCTOR! HE HAS NO CONSCIENCE AT ALL!

Outstanding!

Dr. Onkin has been my choice for a number of years because of his professionalism and personal manners. He's very thorough, patient, and kind. He cares (it does show), but hasn't let that get in the way of therapy. His breadth of knowledge and experience is readily apparent, as he was able to approach issues in a number of ways that were quite helpful.

As we should expect, he's also quite knowledgeable on generics v. "name-brand" pharmaceuticals, and has given excellent advice on effectiveness and value. I have a number of friends in that field and they've confirmed his comments. The difference in results has been notable; sometimes he's suggested generic, sometimes "name-brand", sometimes specific manufacturers. I keep extensive notes on these things (your health is very important!), and he's been spot-on!

He has an obvious willingness to listen and calm demeanor. It took me a bit of time to relax (I'm a bit introverted and shy), but I've found his gentle sense of humor quite funny. Dr. Onkin has been very attentive and listens deeply -- I don't ever think of him as having made "snap judgements" or arbitrary decisions; he really, really listens. I've had other professionals give me the impression of simply "going through the motions"; that's never been the case here.

Bonus: He's been exceptionally flexible for scheduling appointments, too (I work long hours and my schedule can change quickly), and I haven't felt rushed or ignored. Sometimes I need more time, sometimes I don't, and he's been helpful either way. His office staff (Barbara, primarily) is pleasant, helpful, and very easy to work with.

I wish I'd found someone of his caliber years ago.

He's been a tremendous help, and I highly recommend him!

Doctor Onkin is one of the Best Doctors that I have seen. He really was there for me. I needed to find a Doctor that could understand me and who was helpful and came up with a new plan of treatment for me since I was not doing well in the past. Thank you Dr. Onkin I have seen him for the last couple of months.

Dr. Onkin is world class and I have been with him for over 2 years as a patient. I am a former world class athlete out of UCLA and diagnosed bi polar after I raised my 4 kids and discontinued coaching youth in Newport Beach. The lull from excitement and bravado really triggered my bi polar. Dr. Onkin is fabulous and punctual. I see the doctor twice a month and each time I feel better for having seen him. Great staff. Great set of lobby magazines, best I have seen. The Doctor has a keen knowledge of alcoholism of which I also suffer that only came on late in life. I am 56 and never drank in college or after until 5 years ago. Dr. Onkin understands AA and the drugs such as antabuse to treat my disease. Parking hint, park at walgreen across the street. free one hour parking.

I unfortunately had the worst experience with this doctor. From the first time to the last time that I came to see him, I felt worse walking out than when I walked in. He is an older gentleman who either from a generation gap or his own character, fails to listen or even let you speak, at times. He made me feel uncomfortable and would constantly patronize me. It is very hard to accept that you need help and this man made it feel unbearable. I feel that sometimes his demeanor was cold and completely unfeeling at worst. At best, he made inappropriate jokes and wasted time with his musings. It pains me to have to write this scathing review but I feel that mental health is so very precious and I hope that anyone reading this who feels the same will find it helpful whether they decide to try Dr. Onkin or not.

Not empathetic, bad memory, takes no times with you, so I have no idea how he diagnoses people without a prior diagnoses. Paternalistic and condescending. He's great the first time you meet him and rapidly degrades once you're in his clutches!

They're friendly if you have insurance & they're getting paid (who isn't?). Once you have an issue with insurance (who doesn't nowadays) they're rude & unprofessional (yes, and Dr. Onkin too). A message to Dr. Onkin: It's not my fault the healthcare system is a total drain and its actually your job to justify your medical care to the insurance - that's what your degree is for! Welcome to 2012 - you don't just see patients and charge them $$$ for it. You actually have to work harder just like everyone else for the same salary. Next time you feel like taking your insurance-fueled anger out on someone - actually do it to the insurance - not the patient. I've never been treated so poorly by any staff before.
