Biography

Dr. Kassir enjoys expertise in the use of various forms of psychotherapy ("talk therapy") as well as the judicious use of medication (if necessary). Dr. Kassir's skill in the use of psychotherapy includes the application of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and an advanced from of therapy called Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). As faculty of the California Institute for Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy, Dr. Kassir has nine years of specialized training in ISTDP. This far surpasses the training given most psychiatrists. Dr. Kassir has provided instruction in the technique of ISTDP to international physician audiences. Dr. Kassir is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California Irvine Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior (as volunteer faculty). Dr. Kassir is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. His academic background includes an undergraduate education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and subsequently medical and postgraduate training at the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Kassir completed his residency in 1999 as Chief Resident at UCI Medical Center's Neuropsychiatric Institute. He has served as a member of the Executive Council of the Orange County Psychiatric Society since 1998 in a variety of positions including Secretary, Councilor, and his current position, Chair of the IT Committee. Dr. Kassir has maintained a private practice in psychiatry in Orange County, California, since 1999.
