Dr John Murphy will be remembered as an outstanding surgeon and man. Dr John's talent, relentless talent compassion, understanding, academic intelligence have cured and saved countless lives over his career. And when that couldn't happen, John treated all his patients with so much personal compassion and beautiful bedside manner care. I worked with Dr John for several years, I sent 2 family members to him for major surgery and needless to say his surgery was excellent with wonderful results. I send my sincere condolences to Dr. Murphy's wife and children. Your husband and Father made the world a better place ! Rest In Peace John, we will always honour your contribution to the health sciences and to Moncton.

From his consultation with me I thought I was going in for day surgery and I was 6 days in hospital. He didn't take the time to tell me percent chance of death on the table or anything else. He did an axcellent job and I suppose he figured why waste his time talking about it when he knew he could get it done with or without me knowing what was going on. In the few seconds per day when he dropped in for follow up I saw that like most surgeons he has a "God complex" and I can see how they get that way after a while of literally having a person's life in his hands. I should add that his recptionist is as good as it gets. Find out all you can on your own about what your operation involves and then hope he'll be doing it. He's the best in the OR if not the office or the ward.

Two to 3 hour waiting for him to show up. No introduction. It's just a "Here's the problem, you will be put on a list, will take about a year or so" and off he goes. Did not see him before going into operating room. Next day a stranger showed up in my room and asked me if I was ready to go home. Had to ask nurse who he was. Apparently Murphy's assistant who probably did the actual operation. Follow up visit another 3 hour wait. He finally walked in the exam room with a cell phone between his ear and neck and a clip board in hand and talking into the phone....no eye contact with me and then snap: "Well, I'm asking YOU a question"...How in the world was I suppose to know that. He may be great at what he does but in my personal opinion that's as far as it goes. Macanic, yes.
