I took my father to Dr. Vogel several times in the last few years of his life. Dr. Vogel incorrectly told me that once a patient has a catheter, there is no way to avoid UTIs and other infections. My dear father-in-law then went on to have repeated UTIs that lowered the quality and duration of his life. Fast forward a couple years after his death in 2015, and I learned that since 2005 there have been ongoing studies released that show that the use of a checklist when changing and caring for a catheter can bring UTI and other infection rates down close to 0%. My father-in-law was never given a checklist not did he have this information shared with him at all. Dr. Vogel seems far behind the times in caring for patients and keeping them infection free and I regret taking his word for it about infection rates. As a side note, wait times in the waiting room were often well over 30-45 minutes and then we would wait again once we were in a room.

Vogel should be called on the carpet for his billing practices. I was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on 5/27/18 for a heart attack. During the course of my nine-day stay, it was discovered I had a kidney stone. A day after the surgery, Vogel showed up at my room at Cedars. He started off by saying he did not perform the implant of a stint in my kidney, but another doctor in his office (a guy from India whose name escapes me.) Vogel proceeded to show up at my room every day for the next six days basically doing nothing but explaining the same thing over and over. His stay was about 15 minutes at the most, but I was billed $175 per each one of these unnecessary visits. A few weeks after I was released from the hospital, I received a bill from him in the amount of $2,700. Six office visits while I was hospitalized and $1,500 for the stint insertion and something else. He is listed on my plan with Cigna. But here is the problem. He was trying to bill through another tax ID, listing me as a patient at another office of his that does not accept insurance. It has been a big battle, and something that to me, Vogel is engaging in suspicious billing practices. I'm a pretty good judge of character and I found him shady and dishonest out of the gate. I was right.

This doctor is an ambulance chaser. I was in hospital emergency room for catheter insertion when his doctor friend introduced me to him. He asked me to make an appointment with his office to remove catheter later. I made an appointment with him and cancelled when I found out he did not accept any insurance. I went to another urologist for catheter removal. He still went ahead and invoiced my insurance and myself for $400 even though he provided no service. He is a farce and I would recommend great caution if you have to use him.

Mark Vogel, MD is far from being a nice man. I had a trapped kidney stone and infection that needed to be taken care of and he told me that because of the National Urological Confrence he was heading up it would be virtually impossible to get treatment before a week further he couldn't get me a ct scan for a week. I had to stick with him, having to be admitted to the hospital because of his laziness and not treating me for the kidney infection which made the stone worse, roughed me up on exam, then I and the OR team had to wait on his tardiness for my surgery. He should be ashamed of himself. Attitude and treating people poorly doesn't work in my book. He should be ashamed of himself as well as the doctor who refered me to him.
