Dr. Shelnutt gave me an abortion.. and I wasn’t even pregnant. PLEASE READ. I have been avoiding writing this review for months because it was truly the most traumatic experience I have lived through. Back in January of this year, I decided to get an IUD. Dr. Shelnutt prescribed me 800 mcg of misoprostol as a cervical softener to help ripen my cervix before the procedure. I vaginally inserted 4 (200 mcg) pills of misoprostol. As soon as they began to dissolve, I knew I made a terrible mistake. The stomach cramps began immediately and every attempt to dig out the pills did not work. For 8 hours straight I experienced painful contractions almost every minute, vomiting, fever, constant shaking, and intense bleeding for weeks after. I canceled the procedure and Dr. Shelnutt gave me oxy and valium to ease the pain. It did not help whatsoever. After that terrible day, I began to do my research and consult other gynecologists. The recommended dosage of misoprostol as a cervical softener is 25- 50 mcg. The recommended amount of misoprostol for a medical abortion within the first trimester is 600- 800 mcg. As I stated earlier, I had vaginally inserted 800 mcg of misoprostol. This caused me to “go into labor” and experience extremely painful contractions for 8 hours, with nothing being pushed out of my uterus. Below I have inserted a photo of my prescription bottle as well as a screenshot from the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and a statement by The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Dr. Shelnutt is solely responsible for my most traumatic experience and I urge others to not go to him. Even though I had received professional opinions that this was malpractice, he never admitted that he did anything wrong. If I could afford a lawyer, I would have sued him immediately.
