I am a 60 year old woman who has been a patient of Dr.Alter's for over three decades. He is a hvery intuitive, compassionate Doctor, conservative in his approach. He is highly skilled and individualizes his care to a patients' circumstances and personality. His style is to listen and gently guide care but guide he does. He never raises my level of anxiety and at that same time is clear on an action that is needed to protect my health. The Doctor described in the low rating in no way reflects Dr. Alter as a Physician and it is a dis service to his dedication and a falsehood about his integrity as a Medical Doctor. The description of care in the rating below
is unrecognizable and the antithesis to my experiences and the experiences of countless friends and colleagues, three who are Nurses. The Nurses in the practice take care of you emotionally and with sensitivity to the needs circumstances of women in all stages of life.

Dr. Alter has been my OB for several years, in spite of friend's and colleagues' bad experience with him (wide range of complaints, from careless and negligent exams, to wrong diagnosis which led to miscarriage). Personally, I once experienced his sudden and unexplained tantrum (!) during an annual exam, which he later apologized for. Still I didn't leave him, since he had (and might still have, from some reason) a good "Washingtonian review" score. However, the last straw was when I recently scheduled my annual exam, and was sent away from his office without him willing to see me because I was 20 minutes late to the appointment, 10 of which I was searching for a parking space near his Bethesda office. I have actually begged, pleading the receptionist to speak with the head nurse and with him, explaining I really needed to see him due to medical irregularities other than my annual, but to no avail. He was not willing to see me. This is unacceptable. Time to take my business elsewhere!

I have been seeing Dr Alter since I was 22. Two kids, several issues, and 15 years later I still consider Dr Alter the great doctor I have ever seen and one of the best men I know. I have never felt rushed with him - he takes the time and effort to answer my questions and follow-up with me as necessary. He is kind and compassionate and I think his bedside manner is wonderful. I can't imagine a better doctor.

Dr. Alter is not good at explaining medical conditions. His bedside manner is not the best. By my worst experience with this practice. He can use some tips from Dr. Wolfgram.

I've been a patient of Dr. Alter for 18 years. I switched to another Dr. in the practice after about 7 years and then switched back to Dr. Alter. Have been with him ever since. He was diligent through both of my pregnancies, as well as compassionate. I have called him over the years and he ALWAYS calls back - not a nurse. He is kind, has a good bed side manner ( during appts and child birth) and is easy to talk to. I called him when my daugher turned 15 and asked his advice on several things which he was helpful with - and responded to my calls promptly - with good advice.

I have seen Dr. Alter, among other Drs. at Capital Women's Care, throughout my 2 pregnancies. He is kind, informative and flexible (worked me in at the last minute when another practice Dr. canceled due to sickness). While I appreciate the attributes of a young Dr., not much can substitute for his many years of experience. I have complete confidence in him and would be very pleased to see that he was on duty when I deliver again.

Great doctor! I have been his patient for 14 years. He is alsways friendly, caring and knowledgeable. He alwasys lets me know all the options and gives me advice on the best course of action.

Dr. Alter is the greatest doctor I know. I have been his patient since 1985. I had breast cancer, and he did a needle biopsy and referred my to another great doctor. Dr. Alter is extremely knowledgeable, professional,friendly, kind and empathetic. His exams were never unpleasant. He always answered all my questions, and talked to me about all my options. I have moved, but am coming back to MD for Dr. Alter. I completely trust Dr. Alter. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
