When your pt, Dr Merritt, calls and tells you that they had to go to another hospital because their water broke early, how about you listen and don't fuss at them for not being in Sanford, and then get rude and hang up the phone on them when they ask for medical records. This baby, after emergency surgery, is now in a large area hospital in critical condition in the NICU. This review is in my name, and I'm telling you that I wouldn't send my annoying neighbors dog to to this clinic....Shameful!

I went to him with my third child and was very pleased with the way he did things. I liked the experience with my prenatal appointments and labor/delivery with him and his staff over any of the other two I had before. I wasn't comfortable at first with him being male but I figured I would give it a try and yo my surprise he made me feel more comfortable than I have ever been with any ob/gyn! He is a wonderful doctor and takes his time never rushes and always made my girls feel like princesses. If I were to ever have more he would be the doctor I would go to and still drive 30 minutes for my annual checkup. :)

I have been a patient of Dr. Merritt's for about 2 years now. I have always felt extremely well taken care of by him. He encourages his patients to call him (on his personal cell phone) if they ever have a problem, which is basically unheard of these days. You don't have to go through an on call nurse in the middle of the night if you're having any complications. I have never felt rushed by him, nor have I ever left with questions that were not answered. Even when I arrived at my 6 week postpartum check-up with a screaming infant, he gave me the time and space to nurse her until she calmed down, and then took even more time to go over any and all concerns I had. His level of care has exceeded my expectations.

I saw dr merritt and unfortunately had a blighted ovum. I was very uncomfortable by his pressure to have it "taken care of" in the back room in his office. When I demanded to be treated in the HOSPITAL for a proper d and c , I was treated like I was being a pain. Over and over he tried to get me to "just take a valium" and let him do it as an office procedure. No no no.
I am also a nurse, which I did not share with him, and I have to say the condescending attitude and the "honeys" and "sweeties" really dont work for me.

Initially I loved Dr. Merritt, but towards the end of my pregnancy, I started getting a lot of personal 'red flags'. He's a very 'my way or the highway' kind of doctor and doesn't like straying from what he knows, even at the request of a patient, and not without insulting them for researching and having a preference. Within 30 seconds of bringing up the topic of medications used during delivery, he told me I should transfer doctors. He will also say very misleading things to get you to think his way is the best (ex: that Pitocin doesn't work). He is a great doctor if you are one who would like to go through your pregnancy blind to the tests being run and what happens in your delivery room. I walked out of my last appointment with him crying and transferred to UNC. Best thing I ever did. When I spoke to a nurse at that hospital after my delivery about my experience with Dr. Merritt, she agreed that in her experiences with working with him in the past, he gets stressed out very quickly when thing don't go his way. Their words and opinions very much coincided with mine. I loved my experience at UNC and transferring was the best thing I ever did.

I'm sure he is a great doctor and many women will have great experiences with him, but if you are anything like me and like to be given clear instructions by the staff members (nurses are too involved in their own conversations and joking around to tell you what is going on), like to be up to date on the latest research, or just have a small preference about what drugs you receive at your delivery, he is not the doctor for you. He will get rude and insulting real fast if you express any concern over how he does things.

And I quote from my last appointment: "When the woman mentions a 'birth plan', we already draw the c-section incision on her."

And

"You start by changing one thing about your delivery, you'll keep going and end up with a c-section."

Dr. Merritt and his staff and are wonderful! My appointment was for a yearly (overdue by about 2 years!).The friendly staff made me feel comfortable right away, and Dr. Merritt took nearly 30 minutes talking with me about concerns/lifestyle, everything, before he even started the exam. He was very respectful and informative. I felt so at ease, he was forthright and easy to talk to.His support team is equally as pleasant and they took the time to explain my charges and paper work. He followed up with all of my bloodwork and tests within days, with a personal phone call.I can't say enough great things about this team, I'd highly reccommend this office, and I'm picky!!
