Had a ultrasound at 11 weeks and he brought up my age (40) more than 10 times. He did a great job scaring my husband and I that our baby will have problems. Will never return to see him. Worst experience ever with a doctor.

Very pushy, was not open to what my wife and I wanted. Forcing a c - section on my wife and I. Not impressed with his bedside manner.

I was referred to Dr. Read for an ultrasound that seemed to show a cyst. He looked at the spot in question and said that he couldn't tell what it was. He then hypothesized that it might be a tumor, and told me that we would need to monitor it, that it might start growing out of control and I would have to have an emergency C section, that there was no chance that I could follow my plan of a home birth and instead would probably need to deliver in a university hospital so that my child could get immediate specialty medical treatment. His manner was brusque, and his message was both doom-and-gloom and uninformed, since he openly admitted that he couldn't actually tell what the mass was. After consulting with my midwife, I did not keep further appointments with Dr. Read, and instead got a second opinion from a highly regarded perinatologist at another clinic. The second doctor easily diagnosed the mass as one of three types of benign cyst, and cleared me to birth at home.

I was referred to dr. Read on an emergency basis due to an incompetent cervix. The very same day I saw him, I was having a cerclage performed. Talk about quick. My initial reaction was he knew what he was doing and his nurse was very helpful. My complaints would be that he isn't very good at describing things in lay mans terms (but he did draw us pictures). Also, during the follow up I asked what activity I could safely perform outside of bed rest. All he kept saying was "be smart", couldn't get anything specific out of him at all and he's supposed to be a specialist. 4 wks following my surgery I started having soreness in the cervix area, but could not reach anyone as it was a Sunday. What doc doesn't provide an emergency after hours phone line??? This one, apparently. As far as wait times, I got in within 5 minutes my first appointment but waited around 20, then another 10 at least once I was brought back the second visit. I also felt that ha stared at my chest a lot, not great!

I had to wait for 45 minutes for my appointment, he is abrasive with poor bedside manner, hardly lets you get a word in, acts put out if you ask him a question and rushed me out the door. I agree that his office staff was nice and helpful but that is not enough to make me return to this Dr.

Dr. Read managed my high-risk pregnancy several years ago, at another facility (Not St. Joseph). Throughout my pregnancy he was very negative, commenting that if my babies survived, they would be severely disabled. He did not expect them to live. While I ended up having a good outcome, with two very healthy twin boys who are physically and mentally perfect, I feel that Dr. Read's "doom and gloom" prognosis really added to the stress of carrying high-risk twins. This rating reflects only my experience with Dr. Read personally, not his clinic or staff.

We found Dr. Read to be particularly careless with his diagnosis. It was clear he was guessing about the condition of our daughter. Threw out severe scenarios as to what could be wrong. In the end we have a perfectly healthy baby. Thank goodness he was so wrong.

I love the office staff, but the few min I have with the Dr. are always rushed and my questions are directed to the nurses. I have felt that my questions are unwarranted and I should just trust his judgment with out explanation. Also having the problem of questions I have about delivery are we have to wait til we are there? but how do you plan what you want and how things are handled if simple "do you routinely preform episiotomy?" is a we'll see answer. Again I love the staff and I always get in fast and the nurses generally answer my questions but the Dr. always is in a hurry.

Like the previous poster said, he's a high risk doctor, and an amazing one at that. I had seen several OBs prior to him and wouldn't want to see anyone else.
