Firstly, I have never worked for Dr. Brown and am not benefiting from or being compensated for my review. This is an independent review. I had 25lbs that I couldn't keep off. I could lose it with other diets: Dr. Bernstein, Keto, Weight Watchers but always regained 25 lbs. Now in my 50's none of these diets work. I was referred to Dr. Brown in 2022 and I lost the 25lbs and felt AMAZING. My joint pain was gone, night sweats were under control and snoring stopped. As I was reaching maintenance, I had a major health scare and told by the ER doctor to stop the program and all vitamins and meds (such a bad call). I gained 50lbs in 6 months. Under the guidance of my GP I tried Ozempic and lost ZERO. I tried a dietician to no avail. My doctor and I agreed I needed Dr. Brown. I returned to Dr. Brown 3 weeks ago and am down 12 lbs. His program has been perfected, from the supplements and shakes he has created for the program as well as the office flow. To run the office efficiently, maintain patient flow and help as many people as possible, he NEEDS to be to the point. There is a weekly journal you complete and hand to reception when you check in at your weekly visit. He addresses everything on your journal. Yes, he is quick but he addresses it all. If you don't want to spend lots of time sitting in the waiting room each week, he has to be quick. He isn't going to kick you out of his office if you have additional questions. He isn't like that. He has always been informative and takes the extra time when needed for additional questions. I try to be mindful by not getting into idle chit chat with him for the respect of his schedule and the people waiting to see him. His program is NOT Dr. Bernstein. There aren't any injections and I get to eat way more than the 350 calories I was eating on Bernstein. This program is geared teach you to eat the right foods, proper portions, eat foods to keep full , to fuel and nourish your body and the best time of day to eat certain foods to keep you insulin at a consistent level so you don't spike and drop, have cravings and binge eat. You start with a basic menu with a lot of choices. He expands your allowable foods list weekly. For example, he may add 1/2 cup blueberries 2-3X per week that you can only eat AFTER LUNCH. It's a small thing but important. Timing is everything. Portions are everything. There are options if you are hungry after eating your meal. He gets you eating properly. The office visit is covered by OHIP if your BMI is over 30 (don't quote me on it). The vitamins are an out-of-pocket expense. With many people on Ozempic, insurance companies will soon be dropping it from the covered meds if it's being used strictly for weight loss. The Program Fee includes the supplements and shake cost for 4 weeks which is about the same as 1 Ozempic pen, every 4 weeks. (most people use 2 pens every 4 weeks). I found great ways to use the shake every day by adding the powder to my Chia seed pudding, blend it with almond milk and ice which ends up tasting like a malt or make a shake with spinach to get some of my veggies in (just be mindful that you only use the recommended one scoop per day in total). As for the comments about his bedside manner; I have worked in the healthcare industry for over 20+ years with over 30 physicians and have experienced enough to say he is not what people are complaining of and making Dr. Brown to be. Yes, Dr. Brown may be a little direct and to the point but who doesn't want that? Is he supposed to sugar coat what he is saying or beat around the bush about the nightshades he added to the food list this week or state in a round-about-way that he is adding fruit? No. He is updating your food plan that week and giving advice, not delivering a terminal diagnosis and prognosis so we have to keep the perspective of the weekly appointment. He may refer you back to your GP for issues not related to your weight loss. He is not practicing as a family physician so don't expect full care from him. That isn't his job. The people complaining have bad days also and may not be a peach to deal with on occasion, which is perfectly normal. Take a step back and remember he is human too. You never know what he is going through and he is entitled to bad days as well. Complaining that he is quick with info when it's emailed to you for review at your own pace, is petty. Maybe before sending such scathing reviews, make sure you're not having a bad day yourself. Overall, I think because of his additional expertise in other related fields of medicine, his focus on weight loss is a bonus for all that need his help. There aren't many physicians offering this service with the same knowledge and expertise as him. The man knows his stuff and you will lose weight. I am grateful to have been led to him and for him guiding me on the path to being myself again. Thank you, Dr. Brown!
