I am a R.N. who has been suffering from chronic depression & seasonal affective disorder for approx 18 yrs. I tried another Dr in Austin who basically told me I was nuts and bipolar. She had me in tears and put me on meds that she couldn't remember & apparently didn't write down from one visit to the next. I went to see Dr. Dake, a kind, softspoken, elderly man who was happy to meet with my husband for my first visit per my request. He immediately put us both at ease, assured me I was not bipolar. He listened attentively and adjusted my medication. He is very thoughtful and not only asks me the general questions but always asks about my family and family life in general. I am not afraid to tell him anything as I know he supports me and if I feel as though something is changing or not quite right he is very willing to help me figure it out whether it mean adjust dosages, add meds, or remove/substitute meds. Dr. Dake is very knowledgeable and I highly recommend him. He isn't money hungry.

Dr. and Thea Dake saved my life!! I came to them a broken, hopeless person. It took no time for Dr. Dake to identify that I was bipolar. Dr. Dake gave me hope. The medications continue to be a challenge for me, but, Dr. Dake will stop at nothing to get my symptoms under control. Dr. Dake is the most compassionate doctor that I have ever encountered. He is definately not a push-over ~ so, if you're looking for someone to prescribe a lot of narcotics, he is definatly not your man. His wife, Thea, is also wonderful. She has proven to be a lot more to me that someone to listen to my problems. Thea is a wonderful therapist who listens with an open mind. She is patient and caring, even though I seem to continually make the same mistakes in my life. Dr. Dake's staff is top notch! They are courteous and helpful. I am always greeted by my name with a smile! It is obvious that they care just as much as Dr. and Thea Dake. I don't feel like I am a patient,I feel like I am family!!!!

Had a prompt visit with Dr. Dake this a.m.; Lori, his office mgr., is very likable and efficient. See him every 4-6 wks. for ADD meds, and am grateful for the lack of b.s; understanding of disease/illness and compassion he expresses, along with the laughter and joy we share @ appointments.

Has no problem being discourteous but does have a problem when you stand up for yourself or call him on it. Rude and unprofessional curmudgeon. Expresses no conern for the impact his treatment plan, if you can call it that, has on you or your family. Appears to be more concerned with the bottom line, i.e., big dollars by sardining patients into his office and seeing as many in an hour as possible, meaning he spends maybe fifteen minutes with you at each "hour" visit. Being the only licensed psychiatrist in the area there is no shortage of people needing help and can therefore pick and choose patients based less on patient needs and more on compatibility with their willingness to swallow his unkindness or moodiness or go along with his "plan". Before visiting him I read all of the negative reviews here and elsewhere and thought they were just sour grapes. Sadly I found that they were right on and who knows what happened to those poor folks needing serious help. FIND HELP ELSEWHERE!!!

While I do think it good that Dake wants regular visits to check up on medication's effectiveness and safety, he is certainly lacking in "bedside manner," and is on many occasions extremely unprofessional and rude. On my first visit, he criticized my handwriting, for starters--yes, my handwriting, of all things. When I discussed my problems with him, he called me a "****in' mess." He then called me a narcissist within only the first few minutes of our discussion, which I found offensive--I don't see how anyone could make a fair assessment meeting someone for the first time. He tends to make his assessments based on stereotypes and generalizations. E.g. calling any relationship with problems "co-dependent." I don't want to make an ageist comment, but I think he believes himself to be wise because he's old. In short, he has a overly high opinion of himself. All that being said, I do believe he tries to help his patients. I just do not approve of many of methods in doing so.

These people show no interest in your well-being at all! Dr Dake just writes you a script and gets you out the door. The office staff is incompetent and discourteous. Dont waste your time and money with these people!

Dr. Dake is a gumpy old man who is rude and abbrassive. He refused to complete documentation or provide a written statement to confirm/validate his own diagnosis of my condition or the treatment plan he prescribed for me. The fact that he wouldn't back-up his own medical practices in writing, made me wonder about is diagnosis and treatment.

I can count the number of times Dr. Dake actually looked at me on one hand during our initial visit. He was very impersonal and made me feel very akward. He based his diagnosis off of a questionaire I had to fill out a month before I actually saw him; he had a diagnosis before he acutally saw me and based off a paper! I did not like his method of treatment and neither did my mother or husband. I quickly found another doctor. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL!

These people are a joke. They stay in business because there is a shortage of these professionals in this area. What a shame because they are a sham. The doctor, who should have retired 10 years ago, shovels clients to his wife, who is a narcissistic creep. Please beware.
