One of the biggest regrets I now have in life is switching to Dr. Kijek's care for the birth of my child. This is a man who — in my opinion– wants to rush your child's birth by means of intervention, with little to no regard for your consent/wishes. If you disagree with him on anything, he (in my experience) becomes angry and condescending. I'm left feeling violated after my experience with him.

My first red flag should been him pressuring me into induction for the very next day after my due date, and that he'd go no later than 40+3 — as if that was his decision to make. Keep in mind that I had a healthy, low risk pregnancy as a first time mother — going past your due date by a few days under those circumstances is normal and as an OB he should know this.

After I was admitted to the hospital, when I asked him to explain a couple points I was confused about in the hospital's consent forms, he walked into the room, said, "whatever it says is on that form," then left the room. They had to locate and call in another doctor to answer my questions on his behalf.

As soon as we arrived to my room, he insisted that we immediately manually break my water because of two slight dips in baby's heart rate during contractions at the very start of my visit, which stopped happening after IV + turning to my side. I expressed that I did NOT want an amniotomy performed that early — he then told me that he's breaking my water anyway and isn't taking "no" for an answer. He became confrontational towards myself and my husband for denying consent to this procedure and threatened to quit if we didn't let him do it. Even the nurse present had to come to my defense to get him to stop attempting to force me. He never expressed the exact reasoning for WHY the amniotomy would have been beneficial for the baby, and I still don't understand how augmenting the labor (faster & stronger onset of contractions) would have helped the issue he claimed to be concerned about.

Before labor, I made my husband promise not to "look". Kijek CONTINUOUSLY tried to make my husband look, and even argued with him to look despite my pleas for him NOT to (as if I wasn't there!)

After delivering my child, I find out from a nurse present (never directly from Kijek) that Kijek performed an episiotomy on me without my consent or knowledge whilst I was under the effects of epidural. Dr. Kijek NEVER uttered a word to me about the episiotomy (neither before or after) and simply did as he pleased with my body. In fact, it was immediately after a nurse mentioned that "I was tearing a little" that my husband witnessed Kijek take a pair of scissors — though NOW after receiving my hospital records Kijek claims on paper that he did so due to a "drop in fetal heart tones". There was no mention of fetal distress at the point where he cut me. I suppose it's my word against his, right? Episiotomies are an outdated procedure: Even ACOG recommends against them as they're associated with higher levels of pain, edema, & bleeding vs natural tearing. I'd be less upset if he'd mentioned anything about it to me and why he had to do it — but like I said: the man never even told me about the episiotomy, and I had to find out from someone else hours later when the pain started to hit me.

For the first few weeks postpartum, I was in excruciating pain from the procedure and struggled to sit, walk, use the restroom, or even nurse my child. His decision that he made over MY body continues to cause me pain and discomfort, whilst I'm sure he hasn't even given it a second thought.
