Im very disappointed in Dr Mantle's bedside manners. I had my surgery three weeks ago and woke up in the worst pain Ive had since my back problem started a year ago. I understand surgery pain is completely different and extremely painful. However, my nurses tried for over 24 hours to contact Dr Mantle to change my prescription and he wouldn't respond. When he finally came to visit me, over 24 hours after my surgery, he was trying to discharge me. I told him my pain was terrible and I couldn't make the 2 hour car ride home. His response was "Because no one has every survived a 2 hour car ride before." He changed my medication and told me he was pushing me to go home the day after. I didn't see him again at all, I wasn't given any instruction about the amount of activity I could do or even information on how the surgery itself went! I called the office a few days after being home to ask a few questions, one being if I needed physio or not. They asked me if I wanted physio and if I did then they would refer me.
The entire experience was terrible. This was my first surgery, at 25, and I was absolutely terrified. His bedside manner made the entire thing ten times worse! He also doesnt do follow up appointments unless something is really going wrong!

I've had Dr Mantle do 3 surgeries on my head for a vp shunt. They were pretty much back to back... all within a month. Not his fault at all. The shunt was first rejected... second showed to be the wrong pressure kind and third has been in since December 12 2015. I'm doing great now. Bump on my back filled with CSF has gone right down to almost nothing so I can't complain. His patient doctor rapport is amazing. He was full of jokes and kept me smiling through my pain. Very good doctor!

Met with technician for nerve testing. Very scary at first but once I got her talking I felt more comfortable and she was more personable and made me feel comfortable. Didn't meet the doctor yet. Office had comfortable waiting area and visually appealing.

I have had a back problem since an accident at 17yrs old. Dealt with pain meds all my life when surgeons said nothing surgical could be done. Finally after 40 years and at the point of over 300mg of morphine a day, I met Dr. Mantle. To keep it brief, he operated and 1 year later I am less then half the meds and getting better everyday. Hoping for the point of no meds at all some day. He has changed my life dramatically.

My meet, thus experience, with Dr. Mantle was extremely disappointing: truly. This doctor treated me with insensitive manners. He did not bother reading my numerous M.R.I.s which CLEARLY state I am not well, nor did he address all my issues. I waited and wasted fifteen months of my life for this bologna appointment.

He failed to display compassion and smugly accused me of being "dramatic". Yes, that is the term he verbally expressed; how insulting and unprofessional. He did not encourage me when voicing that he did not "think I'd do well with surgery". Wow, thanks. His final letter which he sent to the referring physician was severely unimpressive. He jotted down that he performed this and checked that - which were lies. As well, things where he did not believe me, he wrote "the patient SAYS" but where he could not deny certain things, he wrote "the patient HAS". See the difference between the two? And, judging by all the work he has had done on his face and by the lack of facial expressions (he's hard to read) how [[[D A R E]]] he tell me does not support surgery where it is not needed. What? Oh and, LOOK AT MY M.R.I.s. LOOK AT THE HUMP ON MY BACK. Unreal.

His secretary is rude and VERY unpleasant. She rushed me when I was not done filling out the form they have you fill out while sitting. When I told her I was not done, she AND the lady who was doing my nerve test BOTH said "oh, just write whatever, it doesn't matter." This woman, who performed my nerve test, did not explain what she was about to do. Having said this and not having a clue what was about to occur, indeed I was afraid - afraid of the unknown. When I questioned what this test was, she did not smile, she did not reassure me and she was not friendly. His office is dirty and basic.

In conclusion: thanks for NOTHING.

ATT: I rated my experience one star and only due to this being a REQUIRED field for posting. Given the choice, I would have given not a single star.
