Dr. Brooks made a mistake during surgery that has impacted my long term health. When she told me about the mistake, I was still coming to from anesthesia and did not understand because I was essentially completely out of it. She was upset about the mistake (probably because she feared getting in trouble), cried about it, and *I* was the one who had to console *her*. The aftermath that followed was a complete circus -- unprofessional and just terrible.

I was referred to Doctor Brooks for an evaluation for endometriosis. Instead of taking me seriously and my referral seriously from another gynaecologist, she laughed in my face and made rude comments about how I just need to stop birth control, despite the fact that it was the only thing helping with heavy flow and severe pain. She claimed that because I had never been hospitalized for bleeding, it was of no concern. If you can bear humiliation - fine. But I don’t feel I deserved that disrespect after being referred by my own gynaecologist, who knows me and my symptoms well.

Very friendly kind lady. She asked questions to get to know more about my situation and helped in return with some great knowledge to think about. I showed up very early and she was a bit early for my appointment as well. Great staff. The 3 nurses I dealt with before seeing Dr Brooks were very friendly and sweet. One of the nurses was very helpful during my procedure of getting my old IUD removed and getting a new one put in. Now this procedure hurt more than any other I've received and the cramping and pain lasted all day after that. The only complaint is that Dr Books was a little rough while checking my pelvis. Other then that she explained everything to me that was needed and she had well bedside manner.

Pushes birth control, doesn’t want to do research or further learning in her field. Horrible bed side manner- caught her raising her eyebrows, rolling her eyes. No compassion at all, she told me she would send me elsewhere because “she doesn’t deal with these things” but I was referred to her specifically for OBGYN help which she is. Told me I could accept birth control or that was it. No tests, no excision, no laparoscopy, nothing done only offered birth control even though I have very serious issues causing me to be hospitalized several times a year and an intense family history of aggressive uterine cancer. Either overwhelmed from her job at the IWK or has checked out completely and no longer cares, either way..don’t bother with this doctor if you have serious issues. If you just want birth control, she’s the doctor for you!

I was referred to a different doctor but was passed on to Dr Brooks because she was available. She was consistently late for office appointments by at least an hour. She never apologized for being late. She didn’t listen to my fears and her only options were to push progesterone to fix my issue. She made me feel like I was a terrible inconvience for her. She performed an endometrial biopsy and two D&C biopsies the last after taking a three month course of progesterone which gave me migraine headaches daily. After the last biopsy I received a call from my GP telling me I had cancer on a Monday late in the day. Tuesday afternoon I sent an email to Dr Brooks office asking about the results. During the phone conversation with her she told me she had just seen the results. I suspect if my GP hadn’t notified me I would have had to wait unit the six week check after surgery to get the results. From the very first time I met her she had my defences up. She needs to learn some compassion and listening skills. My last visit with her she told me I was the problem of the Gynecology Oncology Department now! I am very glad to have her off my medical team. I suggest if you get referred to her ask for someone else.

After waiting an hour past my scheduled appointment, she basically tells me I'm old and fat and throws birth control at me. Women out there, I have now dealt with two terrible gynaecologists and my advice is no matter how far you have to travel, do it, in the end it will be worth the drive if the doctor has some compassion for your problem. So glad she is gone. Halifax you can have her, good luck, she is all yours.

After reading some of the negative comments on here I'm not one bit surprised. This woman clearly think she knows everything. I am not what they call a baby making machine after 7 years of trying to have a child I finally conceived at the age of 27 and I had a beautiful little girl born at 32 weeks. A wee little thing she was but she was healthy. Then 10 years later much to my surprise I got pregnant again and delivered my second beautiful little girl at 28 weeks. Unfortunately she didn't make it. So at 37 years old I knew I was done going through any more pain and suffering. I had one healthy child and I knew my body and my heart couldn't go through anymore pregnancies. . I'd had 30 plus years of dealing with PCOS, excruciating pain in my stomach, back and legs from my periods. Having to work my schedule around" that time of the month". I explained all this to doctor Brooks and her response was I can give you an IUD. Here I was a woman pushing 40 with clear health issues and this was her way of fixing things. I went home very upset and feeling no better than went I went in. So much so that it took over a year for me to go back to her. This time I told her I was adamant about having my tubes tied or something done to help with my periods and the pain they caused. She looked at me and kind of chuckled and informed me that she was leaving to go to the IWK and that she was referring me to Dr. Clauge. And her exact words to me were" he can deal with you. He'll probably just give you a hysterectomy. " thats what you want anyway. "Never once did I say to her I wanted a hysterectomy I asked her if she felt it was necessary for me to have one because of all my trouble. She is one of the rudest people I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. I feel bad for the patients at the IWK.

I was referred to Dr Brooks because I had to have a large ovarian cyst removed. She was knowledgeable and patient and listened to all my questions and answered everything. She and her team made a scary experience (surgery) very comfortable. She is extremely professional and competent and I was in great hands during my surgery. She visited after surgery and continued to answer my questions and explain. Anyone would be lucky to have her as their Dr!

She was courteous, professional, knowledgeable, and overall the most sympathetic doctor I've seen yet. Love her! I told her the medication I was on wasn't working so we tried something else and I've been pain free since! All doctors should be more like her.
