What an absolute awful awful man. Rude, condescending and gave no indication he was interested in what I had at all (seen through the public system). When I questioned that he seemed to have prejudged me and seemed defensive, he raised his voice and showed me the door. You have to wonder why people go into medicine if they genuinely don’t care about treating people and will write them symptoms off into the nearest box (even if the symptoms barely align). Have never been treated as badly as by this doctor. I have to wonder how he can even sleep at night. If you have a choice, avoid at all costs!

I stumbled upon this site by accident after I'd made an emergency appointment to see Dr Simpson, and was devastated by the reviews I read.
I was considering cancelling the appointment, but there were no other Neurologists that could see me for months at the time.
Well, I have to say, I found Dr Simpson just great, although with the benefit of these reviews, "forewarned is forearmed" perhaps?
He had previously helped me and my GP get a MRI scan done prior to the first visit, just by a phone call. This saved me well over $1500 for the scan, and months of symptom agony too.
Once at the appointment, I found him helpful, knowledgeable about my condition, listened well, and had strong ideas about what my problem 'could' be, and about what it definitely wasn't.
My advice to other patients:
Don't go in there as a whinge psycho patient.
Have all your ducks in a row (paperwork / tests etc)
Be clear, concise what you what him to achieve.
Be positive.
Don't be afraid to stroke his ego a bit.
Be punctual !
Write down on paper, all your symptoms, and case history, drugs you on, and anything else maybe relevant. Him reading this is much faster than you speaking it.

I just hope his diagnosis is correct, but having just Googled it, it seems totally spot on for my symptoms so far, and the medication he has prescribed, Mr Google also agrees with.
I'm very happy today with him.
Expensive, yes sure, but all Specialists are. But if he fixes me in 1 or 2 visits, I will be very happy, as I have already spent many thousands of dollars trying to get better, and so far failed only to get worse so that I can no longer even work now.

This doctor has limited interpersonal skills. He was extremely demeaning, belittling and rude in his approach with me. He was unable to converse with me without becoming aggressive and adversarial. In relation to the Code of Health and Disability it is my belief he breached rights 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7.

I have had a very unpleasant experience being under this doctors care in a ADHB facility for the past two weeks. Unfortunately unlike others i did not have a choice and he was assigned to my ward. After our first meeting I found his mannerisms to be aggressive and confrontational and Also felt very sad for the staff who had to put up with his behaviour , I likened him to a school yard bully the way he treated me and some of the poor nurses. I have now moved back home to the Waikato and I am very relieved that the doctor I am seeing in Hamilton is very kind gentle and understanding. The experience I had with Dr Simpson was just terrible. I am happy to be rid of him and feel so much better just being out of his care

I can’t believe this man is in the medical profession. He has no empathy, he’s extremely rude, condescending and oppressive.
His abrupt and arrogant manner made me flustered and unable to think or answer questions efficiently and too cowed to ask any questions.
He had zero interest in current well being and focussed entirely on a single event months prior and didn’t appear to even had looked at my medical history. He was dismissive and gave the impression I was wasting his time. We were bulldozed out of the office in minutes, feeling confused and wondering what just hit us. Not impressed at all with this doctor. Avoid if you can.

I recently had my first consultation with Dr. Mark Simpson. I'm surprised reading some of the comments here as I found him very patient and helpful in answering all of my questions. He was clear and professional during the consultation itself.

As a family we found Mark Simpson to be excellent in both accurate diagnosis and treatment during a 5 year journey of MSA. We were very grateful for his expert knowledge and appreciated the conservative approach he took with drugs. We felt listened to, and free to ask any questions no matter how simple. We were grateful for his care.

I saw Mark in respect of epilepsy. He was thorough and keen to help my seizure control. He explained in depth the various medication options and possible side effects. He cared! He is going to report in detail the options to my GP so management will be easier in the future. I left the appointment feeling very satisfied and optimistic. He was open to any questions I had.
