After a work injury and 2 lower back surgeries that failed and left me in worse shape I ended up at Dr Dorsky's office. The previous surgery left me in worse pain, loss of control of bladder and if I didn't feel pain from waist down I felt nothing. All doctors either tried to get me hooked on drugs or said there was nothing they could do so I spent 3 yrs in this condition
I spent a long time contemplating ending it all. Dr Dorsky is a very ethical, caring doctor. He said he couldn't fix damage already done but could relieve the pain but not to expect miracles. I had an anterior/ posterior fusion of L4-5 -S1. Immediately I regained bladder control and all feeling below the waist. Yes the 1st 2-3 months of recovery are a little tough. Dr Dorsky gave me my life back and I can't begin to thank him enough. 5 months out feeling pretty good. Thank you Dr Dorsky and Staff

Dr. Dorsky and his staff are the best! Had cervical spine surgery, went extremely well. No headaches, no arm pain. Would highly recommend Dr. Dorsky and staff.

Severe sudden sharp lower back pain and sciatica caused by bending down to put something on a shelf. At the moment it happened my leg went weak and I could hardly walk. This was the first time for me for pain like that. I got an appointment the same day, at the office where I had seen another doctor in that practice a few years before for another issue. Dr. Steven Dorsky came in ad he did one test: told me to push my foot against his hand. Next he told me I need surgery probably immediately. He ordered x-rays to be done while I was at the office. After the x-rays, he sent me for an MRI with instructions to return the next day with the MRI results. The next day, he reviews the MRI and tells me I need surgery this week or next and is going to put me on the schedule. He will do a Laminectomy, rods, screws and a plate, etc. This will require weeks of recovery in a rehab facility! The FIRST thing to do after hearing this kind of advice is to make an appointment for a second opinion. Luckily I did. The LAST option should be irreversible major surgery, not the first! The second opinion doctor (neurosurgeon) spent 15 -20 minutes testing my reflexes and other muscular strengths and weaknesses and exactly pinpointing pain locations before reviewing the MRI and explaining it to me. He emphasized that a herniated disc requires patience and TIME, as it can take a very, very long time for the nerve to heal. The protocol is to try conservative treatment first. After trying Medrol packs and pain meds, I still had very bad pain and difficulty walking. So we skipped trying physical therapy, as too much pain. He then referred me to a pain management specialist for an epidural. The pain management doctor, who did the epidural the next week, also did extensive muscle and pain tests at my first visit and also emphasized how important TIME is to let the nerve heal. The pain stopped the same day that I had the epidural. That was exactly 4 weeks from the date I herniated the disc. After the epidural, it took a while for the sciatica symptoms to subside. After a reasonable period of time, I was pretty much back to my former self. The surgery Dr. Dorsky was pushing on me was serious overkill. My neurosurgeon said it would have solved the problem, but was totally unnecessary. It is terrifying to think that I could have followed Dr. Dorsky’s advice. Be warned. ALWAYS get at least a second opinion and more if needed! Do not rush into surgery!

Dr Dorsky is by far the best spine surgeon on the East Coast, i was referred to Dr Dorsky, he told me that he could guarantee me a 95% chance of being healed from all my leg pain due to Spinal Stenosis, he explained what he was going to, what to expect and the healing process from my Spinal Fusion surgery. 5 years later and I'm still pain free

I began treatment with Dr. Dorsky for a 2nd opinion since I did not feel comfortable with the treatment recommendations my current orthopedic had suggested. Upon meeting Dr. Dorsky, I immediately felt confident in his ability to takeover and manage my care. In addition, at my first visit, he discovered and informed me of an additional issue which then took an ordinary situation and escalated it into a more difficult one. Dr. Dorsky has a direct and no nonsense way of providing care. Without hesitation, on my behalf, he advocated to provide me with the best care according to the standards of practice. I’m 100% convinced that if he had not done so, I could have suffered a catastrophic negative outcome. I am very thankful that Dr. Dorsky accepted my workers compensation case and I highly recommend him!
