He comes across as a nice Dr. when you first meet him, but I had the opportunity to see him in action at an ambulatory procedure that has left me with panic episodes I am still recovering from. For this particular procedure I opted out of sedation due to a high risk conflicting condition that prevented me from receiving this particular medicine. I had met with Dr. McLauchlan a few days prior to the procedure to discuss my high risk condition and how could we best tackle this ambulatory procedure. He reassured me and I walked away from his office thinking I could do it. After all he seemed to have excellent communication skills while being relaxed and witty. Unfortunately for me, I could not manage the dynamic of the procedure and I begged him to stop, but he ignored me and kept on going. One of the two assiting nurses told him laud and clear "I think she wants you to stop" twice, but Dr. Gordon McLauchlan ignored her too and told me just breathe....just breathe...I am still breathing!

This surgeon saved my life. He is hard working and competent. The negative comment here make me think this site is not valid.

Colonoscopy with "minimal" rather than "normal" sedation with reliably safe drugs - excellent from start to finish and allowed me to see screen and have some control if required. Blinds were adjusted so glare was removed from the screen. He talked me through the most painful part I think. The preparation instructions were easy to do and not uncomfortable, aside from about six or eight trips to the bathroom. Full recovery - meaning no external bowel noise - within 24 hours. [It would be helpful were the hospital to supply some little "wet towels" or handbasin and soap, prior to having patient dress].

For anyone is who is upset about their surgery being cancelled at NRGH, that is not the Dr's fault and he shouldn't be blamed for that. It happens and it sucks but it's because other EMG cases come through the door and he probably chose to save someones life verses do something standard. Also it could have been because his previous case went longer than expected because he found out things were worse than he expected. My emergency surgery with him was expected to be 15 mins long, he saved my life but it ended up being 2 hours. Sorry to those people who got bumped because of me! I'm lucky to be here.

First he made me wait over an hour for my 15 sec consultation. Then i waited four hrs at the hospital just for him to cancel my surgery. I had to arrange my work schedule to fit in the recovery. By him canceling it screwed that all up. On top of that i got bumped to the back of the waiting list for my surgery.

Dr. McLauchlan performed a surgery to repair my little brother's Inguinal Hernia two days ago and my Mother and I couldn't be more pleased with how everything went. My brother was very concerned about the operation, since he did quite a bit of research online and found out that there was a possibility of chronic pain following this type of surgery. In fact, he prepared a binder with copies of studies and articles he had researched online and brought it to a consultation appointment. Dr. McLauchlan thoroughly impressed me by taking the time (about 30 minutes!) to look at every article and study and discuss them thoughtfully and thoroughly with us, treating us as 2 perfectly intelligent and understandably concerned fellow human beings. What finally really blew my mind was near the end of the consult my brother expressed his concern about recurrence. Dr. McLauchlan said he would be concerned too if he had ever had a recurrence, but he never had so no worries. Polite and calmly confident.

We will never recommend this doctor to anyone. He is always late.He cancelled my surgery twice and said it could wait. The only good thing is his nurse. She is more professional than he ever could be.If not for her he would not have an office.

I like Dr. Mclauchlan! He did my Gall Bladder removal surgery. At my pre surgery appointment, he explained everything to me, and answered all my questions in detail. I had my surgery Dec 23, right before Christmas, by choice. That was the soonest I could get in, and thats not anyones fault. Before I went in to the OR he explained what was going to happen and how my body will change after the surgery. I felt completely at ease for my first surgery ever! Thank you!
