First negative review I have ever felt compelled to leave.

I truly wish I would have read the reviews on all sites prior to making my appointment.

I was referred to a different office to have a procedure on a tooth at my orthodontist’s request. The company I was referred to could not see me for several weeks.
While driving I found Dr. (used as loosely as possible) Shiro and called. They could see me right away. I went to the consultation and received the whole “give you advice as if you were family” schpeel that other reviewers
describe. [Side note look at the currently doesn’t recommend, I wish I had!]

At my consultation the Dr. explained that after reviewing my x-rays he did not believe he could do the procedure the ortho recommended. However, he thought the best plan of attack was to plan on an alternate procedure and if he could do what the ortho wanted
he would do that procedure but at least we knew best and worst case. I left there with a great deal of certainty and comfort. So much so that I didn’t look up his reviews. SHAME ON ME.

Upon arriving today, the Dr. asked “What are we having done today”? I explained the recap to the best of my ability and he said “That’s not how it works. You tell me what you want done.” I tried to reiterate or recap my recollection of our consultation and he interrupted me saying “You’re not listening to me, I would have never made those suggestions!” This repeated for several minutes but Ill spare you.

As he launched into a tirade I stopped him. I offered to pay (full price, cash) and cancel the appointment but he insisted I be an “adult” and hear him out. I declined and attempted to leave and he interrupted again insisting that I grow up (I am almost 40) and talk this through like an adult.

At that point I walked passed him and left the office to avoid a physical confrontation. I cannot believe this guy is allowed around children or woman.

If you have “options” I strongly encourage you to avoid this place at all cost.

The only positive thing about this experience was that the ladies in his office are real true professionals and were great to deal with. I legitimately feel sorry for them knowing how he MUST treat them.

Dr. Shiro is a great surgeon but an arrogant disrespectful person. He will not answer any questions you have, he will ignore you and not tell you what he is doing as you’re in the operating chair. I will never refer him to anyone and I will never go back. PLEASE TAKE MY ADVICE! Go somewhere that appriciates you and your business.

This doctor is horrible and I will never refer someone to him. He should not be allowed to work with kids. He talks down to people. Never step foot in this office.

Dr Schiro and his staff are top notch. Always answered questions that gave me the respect and a 5 star rating he deserves! My experience with an extraction was unbelievable, took one pain pill afterwards and never needed another. Also, years ago my two kids had extractions with out the pain factor. You can't find a better group of professionals in Lansing.

First time sedated, first surgery, and my experience was GREAT. The other reviews here are not even remotely similar to my experience.

Referred by primary dentist for 2 complex impacted wisdom tooth removals.

I was called prior to my surgery to clarify my insurance coverage, my expected out-of-pocket expense, and my finance options for said out-of-pocket expense. I had already used up most of my dental insurance for the year, and being between two jobs at the time, had just lost my health insurance. They made me fully aware of this. My actual out-of-pocket expense was within $100 of my projection, and I used the CareCredit card to pay this. They explained how it works, and billing was flawless.I got approval for CareCredit on the Thursday, and my surgery was bought and paid for on the Friday. I have 6 months to pay it off at 0% interest; which is better than my existing credit cards.

I was highly nervous before my procedure, and on my confirmation call a few days before my appointment, I made that clear to the woman who called. She explained that while they cannot offer an oral sedation before surgery (e.g. Valium/Diazepam), to speak to my PCP. I called my PCP and received Diazepam to help me with anxiousness the next day.

Took my Diazepam 1 hour before surgery as prescribed, and felt at ease. The office is clean, well-decorated and comfortable. Reception staff are more than happy to answer questions and quell anxiety. Filled in the basic health questionnaire, gave copies of my insurance and ID, and had panoramic x-ray before surgery which was very simple. Dental nurse escorted me back to the waiting room, and about 5 mins after I was called for surgery, where I first met with Dr. Schiro.

Dr Schiro was my surgeon, and came highly recommended from my primary dentist who I trust with my life; I expected Schiro to be the same, and he was. His bedside manner is professional, honest, matter-of-fact and to the point. He made me fully aware of why my teeth had to be removed, how difficult my surgery would be (9/10), and what to expect for surgery. I was first given Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas), and shortly after, Dr Schiro did the IV himself. Within minutes, I was out and don't remember anything from my procedure.

After procedure, I was escorted by a Dental Nurse to the recovery room where I met with my husband. Husband was given directions of what I would need to do over the coming days (I was in the room, but due to sedation don't remember the directions), Dr Schiro checked on me before I left, and off we went to grab my prescriptions. The evening of my procedure, Dr Schiro personally called my husband to make sure everything was alright - and it was. I slept like a baby! The next day I had 0 pain, and minimal swelling.

Prescriptions consisted of anti-nausea medicine, an antibiotic, and pain med (norco). Took the meds religiously for the first few days but then noticed Norco was making me in pain, rather than relieving it, so I stopped taking it.

Just had my follow-up to have sutures out, but they had already fallen out on their own.

In conclusion:
Excellent surgeon - NO PAIN!, minimal swelling, no nasty side effects, very comfortable procedure and would do again 100%.
Informative, comforting support staff. Answered all my questions and were very helpful.

Dr. Schiro was very kind and down to earth when I needed oral surgery for a mucocele on my lip. He explained the cause of the mucocele in a simple way that made me feel comfortable. My surgery went extremely well and I felt back to normal the next day! I really appreciated him personally calling to make sure I was doing okay on the day of the surgery.

Also, his staff are friendly and thoughtful; they remembered me when I came in the second and third time, which made me feel welcome. His Lansing office is brand new and features a beautiful view of a forest, which was calming as I sat in the patient chair. I had an all-around positive experience, and would highly recommend Dr. Schiro as an oral surgeon.
