I have been a patient of Dr Salonikis for a number of years. I appreciate his care and patience. In order to benefit from this type of treatment, you need to be honest with yourself, which takes a fair bit of courage and persistence. Phil was very helpful in sorting my medication. In therapy, he was both gentle and confronting when necessary.
Successful psychiatric practice is not just about medical knowledge. It is also about the personal qualities of the practitioner.
I feel safe with Phil.

I have been under the most diligent care and supervision of Dr. Salonikis for 5+ years. Interesting to read these reviews, considering my experience doesn’t at all coincide with others perspectives.

Dr. Salonikis understood my mental health challenges immediately from the first session. He listened, allowed me to vent, he did not judge, and in time, explained what was occurring in a psychological, biological and physiological sense. He absolutely got me through this without giving up on me. Although it can be difficult at times to hear this, especially when beginning on your mental health journey, I can assure for my experience that I’d prefer to see someone that tells it how it is, so you don’t waste your time. I’ve been there. If you aren’t willing to hear and trust the truth and reality, and the obstacles involved, then reconsider. If you are, then let this be an opportunity to move forward.

Im incredibly grateful for this experience and ongoing help of Dr. Salonikis. There is no one I trust otherwise. Thank you.

Extremely unprofessional individual. I was told that after my appointment a report would be written and given to my GP. I paid the gap for the report and it was never completed. His phone number was then disconnected for several months while I tried to chase it up and when he finally contacted me I was told that we needed more sessions to complete the report. This was NOT explained at the first session.

I saw Dr Salonikis over 2 or 3 yrs. I was on a very high dose of SNRI antidepressants for major depression. Over this time having these medications I was increasingly experiencing hypomanic/manic episode, He suspected that I was probably bipolar. My Wife then accompanied me to one session giving further evidence that I was in a very elevated mood upswing. I was taking, he acknowledged, the second highest dose in his experience. There was no suggestion that I should change my dose or change my medication. The next appointment I spent was on some talk therapy delving into why I might have not lived up to expectation of my Father. This may have been something worth exploring but what I needed was medication to stabilise my mood upswing. I believe this was a missed opportunity. I subsequently discovered after my marriage broke down and two stints in Royal Adelaide 2G that the antidepressants I was taking venlafaxine and the level should have been slowly taper down and eventually eliminated and that what I needed a mood stabiliser. The missed opportunity above when I started to experience hypomania /mania, I needed a quick acting anti psychotic. If I had been given this I might not have saved my marriage but I confident that I would have caused less trauma and turmoil to the people I love the most . My Family,
I'm sure Dr Salonikis is a well meaning Psychiatrist but with respect to me I thought he was a bit out his depth.

I check in to see comments occassionally, and then I wonder if others have seen an imposter!!
Phil has been an anchor for me for a long time. He is supportive and honest and he does make the effort to give you a bit of a push when you need it!!
If you can open your eyes and see what he sees, and reflect on that you might benefit. And then you might be grateful for his skill and expertise. Sometimes his comments are annoying and confronting.
And sometimes, when you think about it, those annoying and confronting comments make sense.
And then you manage to use that knowledge to move forward.
Good Luck!! You might actually be taking a step into your future.
I love the payment system now. Using a card is much better than trotting off to medicare with receipts for refunds!!!
And arent we lucky in Australia... Medicare, Mental Health Care Plans, psychiatrists, access to mental health care....

It would seem from reading the comments and actually seeing him for treatment that this man can be either a Jekyll or Hyde. Some comments would have you believe he is some sort of god whereas my experience was of a very cold distant person displaying very little empathy at all. Not at all giving the impression that he wanted to help you work through your problems or allay your concerns - not that I wanted sympathy or someone to do the work for me just someone who demonstrated understanding. It would seem that he has a ‘one treatment fits all’ approach which to my mind is a lazy way to deal with individuals. His attitude to money leaves one with the impression that this is uppermost in his mind and perhaps even the sole reason for practicing. I personally know of a patient who was charged an exorbitant amount for their consultations (compared to me) which left me feeling this was a man without morals or ethics an opinion that should this be used to describe me I would die of shame.
So I would suggest that should you decide to engage with this man you do so at your own peril.

(Mental health nurse come patient) Bed-side manor leaves it all plus everything taught in kindergarten to be desired... The intercourse for my third consult, verbatim consisted of "hello" followed by approximately 90-120 seconds later "bank card?" Don't need to be a psychiatrist to recognise the ultimate outcome. Dr Salonikis practices completely by the book (aka: DSM; whenever he graduated last) much the same as an AI chat-bot might, any human feedback is either professionally stifled, or unfortunately intrinsically absent. If you are about raw pure data and its twenty something year old scientific interpretation, then this is the man for you! However, if you have evolved further than a "great supine protoplasmic invertebrate jelly" (aka human being) then a human-being may be more up your alley. If you're about grossly financially insignificant (and I'm talking upwards of $560 per hour, cash-back depending on insurance) outcomes consisting of "what do you think?" then invest in a pyramid scheme... You will likely come out with greater wisdom.
