I had a mirena inserted, in my mid 40's, for excessive bleeding. Other options not discussed, only had ultrasound. Have now had abnormal pap, 3 yrs down track. Have now found out I should have had curette done before mirena, to check for endometrial abnormality. Many sources recommend this, standard if over 40yrs and heavy bleeding. I feel this was a significant omission on her part, now causing me concern as I await results re underlying abnormality.
