Dr. Yorston delivered my son 37&1/2 years ago in Toronto and I followed her until she left for Madoc. I loved her. She was terrific EVERY TIME. I was very sad to see her go and have not found the same level of excellent care since.

Dr. Yorston can be a very caring, compassionate doctor. She can also make you feel very small at times and can be dismissive in ways that are not helpful and are frankly demeaning to her patients. Depending on the issue, I felt either completely cared for and that my concerns were valid or that I was a hypochondriac and was wasting her time. Areas of improvement are her interpersonal skills and her compassion towards and trust in her patients. If she likes you and/or views your concerns as valid, you will be given proper and kind care. If not, well, you are out of luck - likely meaning that more taxpayer money is needlessly spent when patients rightfully try to find answers somewhere else (as happened with me - was dismissed as being 'fine', eventually received results elsewhere that indicated what the problem was, went back to her and was finally taken seriously and then properly taken care of. Luckily it was not life threatening!). I am no longer her patient and luckily have a fantastic doctor whom I've been a patient of for a few years now, so I am able to make the comparisons between the care I received then and the care I receive now. Overall, Dr. Yorston has work to do in terms of improving the level of care for her patients, but I will also say she can be very good - when she wants to be, that is.

Dr. Yorston was our family doctor in Toronto for many years and the best doctor we ever had. On many occassions she was able to identify problems in a way that only the wealth of years of experience can give. She always made time for us and if we had to wait a while to see her I always appreciated that she took the time with us as she did with all her patients. She was extremely supportive of me when I was trying to breast feed my first daughter knowing that it was more difficult to nurse after having had a breast reduction many years ago. In the end, although it took some time to succeed, I was able to partially nurse my daughter. The support from Dr. Yorston greatly helped. I found her to be extremely knowledgable, practical and compassionate. This was the first time in my life that I felt I could relax with my doctor and know that I was being treated with respect. She is an excellent doctor.

Dr. Yorston is ABSOLUTELY the most FANTASTIC doctor I have ever had. I now work in the medical field and realize that the negative comments that I read are most likely from disgruntled people who are looking for Walmart doctors. She is not - she is a fantastic physician and human being. I think that those of you who are complaining should probably leave her practice so that other fortunate and appreciative people can enter her care. I hope she never retires!!!!!!!!!! I was her patient in Toronto and miss her greatly!!! If you have a problem with her then perhaps you should look in the mirror!

She needs to retire she doesn't know what she is doing anymore. and she acts like she doesn't care unless she actually likes you.

I personally know that this doctor's ignorance (or just not caring enough) has meant near death to several people. From my own experience, I would be better off without a doctor than to continue seeing her.

Dr Yorston has always been available to see me whenever I needed an appointment. She does not rush an appointment like some doctors do and spends the time to talk. She has always given me the time and medical attention I need at the time and I would recommend her to anyone.

I cannot stand Dr. Yorston. She gave me a lecture about not breastfeeding, assuming it was a personal decision. Once I informed her it was because of the breast reduction surgery I had several years before (that SHE arranged for me to have), she shut up, and told me to leave. Like it was my fault she couldn't be bothered to read up on my medical history. I never had to deal with such crap with Dr. Derry. I cannot stand the woman. She has no ability to work in a small town with beautiful, wonderful people.

I left my rating on 9/26/06, but thought I should give one example of why Dr. Yorston is the best. I was pregnant with my first son when I went to the emergency room with cramps in the middle of the night. The ER doctors couldn't determine the cause. When I saw Dr. Yorston during the day, 10 seconds into the examination, she determined that a large fibroid was the cause of the cramping and we were able to deal with it until the safe delivery of my first son, Scott. Still haven't found a doctor to replace her and I imagine I never will. If you are reading this, I miss you Dr. Yorston!
