She told me I needed a colectomy. That would require a 4-6 week convelescence. She did not tell me about another, less intrusive procedure, because she isn't trained in it. It's called an EMR..I did some networking and was referred to Brigham & Women's in Boston (no one in W. Ma. performs this, I gather). I believe I should have been informed of the approach and who performs this surgical procedure. It is my judgment that what was best for me, the patient, was not what was most important to Dr. Michaelson. She has a good reputation in my community as a general surgeon. My recommendation is..be proactive, shop around.

Holly Michaelson M.D. just completed my colon surgery. She is an immensely humble and skilled professional. She very down to and made me feel comfortable throughout the entire process (beginning at my consult and throughout the prep and post op contacts I had with her). Holly Michaelson came highly recommended (i.e. both by my gastroenterologist and oncologist). She is truly caring, highly knowledgeable, and I would recommend her without reservation. I consider myself to be VERY grateful to have found her as one of my primary cancer treatment providers.
