I had my Myomectomy by Dr. Thom about 4 years ago to remove fibroids. It was a good procedure he performed. Dr. Thom might be a good surgeon but not a good Gyn doctor. After the procedure, I was continually having heavy periods, leading sever anemia for a few times. He showed no concerns and insisted on recommending Hysterctomy. My last PAP performed by him and ultrasound in December didn’t occur to him for another serious fibroid problem. Less than a mother later, I ended up in UCSF medical center ER through an ambulance for fibroid prolepsis. Thanks God, the UCSF Gyn attending doctors were so great that they non-invasively removed the fibroid by avoiding Hysterctomy. Of course, UCSF can do uterine artery embolization procedure. Now I have changed my care to UCSF and luckily I have Dr. Allison Jacoby as my Gyn doctor specialized in fibroid treatment.

Nothing negative to report after first visit for an annual. Dr. Thom was reasonably chatty and friendly, he easily managed my concern about a particular issue. He does not cover OB, only GYN.

Dr. Thom has really horrible bedside manner, but I think he knows what he's doing. My OB/GYN had a stroke after I scheduled a tubal ligation but before the procedure, so to have it done on the scheduled date, I went with Dr. Thom. A few years later, I had some issues that led to a hysterectomy. Both surgeries were performed with great skill, but I would not go to him if I was pregnant and needed ongoing care.

I just had a consultation with Dr. Thom for a medical procedure. The appointment only took 10 min. he was rude, abrupt and extremely judgmental. Needless to say, I am not having the procedure at his office. He was simply obnoxious.

Dr. Thom has been my OB/Gyn for a long time. I have never been happy with his care but since I saw him so infrequently, I just stayed with him. Huge mistake. I can say that he is a skilled surgeon but the man has no bedside manner. The last time I saw him, I actually left his office in tears. He has never listened to what I say, nor does he remember important things that he should know about my history. He has never exhibited any empathy, sympathy or compassion when delivery care to me. I was shocked when I had my last annual PAP with him. He only schedules 10 minutes to see a patient annually. In that time, he completes a pelvic exam and PAP, a half-hearted breast exam and will quickly bring up contraceptives. I don't know if this 10 minute per patient is his fault or the fault of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation but it is ridiculous. A physician can not provide you with good care in 10 minutes or less. I will not be back to see him ever again.

Unfortunately, I needed to terminate a pregnancy. Dr. Thom will provide this service through the surgicenter downstairs. He was completely rude and judgmental. He refused to answer my questions and rolled his eyes when I asked about chemical (as opposed to surgical) options. He gave me one date and when I asked him for *ANY* other day since that was the one day my husband would be out of town, he said "that's the day." When I was wheeled in to the OR, he was laughing and joking with an orderly about the last procedure he had performed. This was the worst medical experience of my life.

My husband and I were newly married and asked Dr. Thom for information about fertility issues. He looked at us like we were stupid for even bringing the subject up, and offered no help in any way whatsoever. We found help elsewhere. Avoid this guy completely - I rate him as one of my top 5 worst doctors of my lifetime - at least we could tell quickly and didn't see him a second time.
