Biography

Dr Côté a grandi dans la région de Gatineau-Ottawa, ses parents ayant établi leur famille de trois enfants dans le secteur d’Aylmer lorsqu’il avait 9 ans. Il a obtenu son diplôme d’études secondaires de l’École secondaire Grande-Rivière en 1996 et a complété sa formation collégiale en Sciences Pures au CÉGEP de l’Outaouais par après. Bien que le chemin pour devenir orthodontiste l’a mené à vivre à différents endroits sur le continent, le choix de la place ultime pour établir sa pratique était une décision facile – ça serait dans la belle région que sa famille et lui ont toujours considérés chez soi. En 1998, Dr Côté a déménagé à Montréal pour poursuivre ses études en médecine dentaire à l’Université McGill. Il s’est démarqué dans ce domaine d’étude et a reçu plusieurs honneurs importants : • Inscrit au Tableau d’Honneur du Doyen à chaque année du programme; • Gagnant des prix du American Association of Orthodontists et American Academy of Periodontology; • Gagnant de la bourse Dr James E.G. Harrison Faculty Scholarship pour avoir démontré le plus ferme engagement à l’éthique professionnel en dentisterie par voie de ses interactions avec ses patients et collègues; • Gagnant du Prix John K. Carver remis par l’ODQ (Ordre des dentistes du Québec) pour sa performance académique exceptionnelle. À sa cérémonie de fin d’études en 2003, Dr Côté a reçu le titre de DMD (Docteur de médecine dentaire). Ayant le choix d’entrer tout de suite en pratique privée, Dr Côté a choisi à la place d’approfondir sa formation en complétant une Résidence multidisciplinaire au University of Nevada School of Medicine à Las Vegas d’une durée d’un an. Au cours de cette résidence, il a reçu une formation avancée dans tous les domaines de la dentisterie avec une emphase particulière sur les soins pour enfants. En 2004, Dr Côté est retourné à Gatineau pour pratiquer la dentisterie générale en cabinet privé pendant trois ans. Il a dévoué une grande partie de sa pratique au traitement des patients qui avaient une peur des procédures dentaire, et il recevait des références pédiatriques de ses collègues même en tant que dentiste généraliste lui-même. Ce faisant, il a développé un intérêt particulier pour l’orthodontie, et il a donc pris la décision difficile d’interrompre sa carrière de dentiste généraliste et retourner aux études à temps plein pour trois ans afin de devenir un spécialiste en orthodontie, ou autrement dit, un orthodontiste. En 2007, Dr Côté a quitté Gatineau pour Edmonton afin de poursuivre ses études de spécialisation en Orthodontie & Orthopédie Dentofaciale à l’Université de l’Alberta. Il a choisi cette école en raison de son programme renommé qui offre l’un des curriculums pratiques les plus complets au monde. Il s’est encore démarqué dans son domaine d’études et a gagné la bourse Advanced Education Heritage Scholarship pour son rendement académique exceptionnel, et il a reçu un Diplôme de Spécialisation en Orthodontie (Dip Ortho) ainsi qu’une Maîtrise en Sciences (MSc) pour sa recherche portant sur l’expansion maxillaire. Il est un Orthodontiste Certifié et Membre du Collège Royal des chirurgiens-dentistes du Canada [FRCD(C)], et il a aussi pratiqué en cabinet orthodontique privé en Alberta avant de se rétablir en permanence à Gatineau. Dr Côté s’engage à rester à jour avec les nouveaux développements dans le domaine évoluant de l’orthodontie tout en conservant une maîtrise des approches traditionnelles. En mariant des méthodes éprouvées avec des matériaux et techniques modernes, il s’efforce d’offrir les meilleures options de soins possibles à chaque patient. Il est passionné par sa profession et se sent d’autant plus fortuné de pouvoir faire ce qu’il adore dans la belle région que sa famille et lui ont toujours appelée chez soi. Il s’implique profondément dans notre communauté en dehors du cadre de sa profession et il chérit l’opportunité d’y jouer un rôle intégral. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Dr. Cote grew up in the Gatineau-Ottawa region, his parents settling their family of three children in the suburb of Aylmer when he was 9 years old. Dr. Cote received his high school degree from École secondaire Grande-Rivière in 1996 and completed his collegiate training at CÉGEP de l’Outaouais thereafter. Though his path to becoming an orthodontist involved memorable experiences living in and travelling to different parts of the continent, choosing a place to ultimately set up his practice was an easy decision – it would be in the beautiful National Capital Region that he and his family have always called home. In 1998, Dr. Cote moved to Montreal to pursue his dental training at McGill University. He excelled in this field of study and received several important honours: • Named to the Dean’s Honour List each year of the program; • Awarded the American Association of Orthodontists and American Academy of Periodontology prizes; • Awarded the Dr. James E.G. Harrison Faculty Scholarship for demonstrating the most firm commitment to the ethical practice of dentistry through interactions with patients and colleagues; • Awarded the Prix John K. Carver prize by the ODQ (Ordre des dentistes du Québec) for his exceptional academic performance. At his graduation ceremony in 2003, Dr. Cote was bestowed the title of DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine). Having the option to enter general private practice immediately, Dr. Cote chose instead to further his training by completing a one-year General Practice Residency at the University of Nevada School of Medicine in Las Vegas. During this post-graduate residency program, he received advanced training in all areas of dentistry, with particular emphasis on pediatric care. In 2004, Dr. Cote returned home to Gatineau where he practiced as a general dentist in the private sector for three years. He devoted much of his practice to the treatment of patients who were fearful of dental procedures, and he received pediatric referrals from his colleagues even as a fellow general dentist. Despite being passionate about all areas of dentistry, Dr. Cote developed a special fondness for orthodontics, and he therefore made the difficult decision to interrupt his work as a general practitioner to return to full-time university studies for three more years to become an orthodontist. In 2007, Dr. Cote left Gatineau for Edmonton to pursue his specialty studies in Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics at the University of Alberta. He selected this school due to its renowned orthodontics program that offers one of the most modern and comprehensive clinical curriculums in the world. He again excelled in his studies and was awarded the Advanced Education Heritage Scholarship for exceptional academic achievement. He graduated with a Diploma in Orthodontics (Dip Ortho) and Master of Science (MSc) degree in 2010, and he completed one year of orthodontic private practice in Alberta thereafter. Dr. Cote prides himself on remaining current with new developments in the ever-changing field of orthodontics so that he may always offer the best possible treatment options to all patients. He is passionate about his work and feels all the more fortunate to do what he loves in the place he’s always considered home.
