I have trigeminal neuralgia, which is easily distinguished from any other facial pain condition by telltale severe “electric shock” feelings in front of ear. Dr. Baten diagnosed me with atypical facial pain-a psychological condition.
My MRI was misread and Dr. Baten did not bother to look at it himself, or he doesn’t know what to look for. Because the report was negative and Dr. Baten agreed, I suffered for many months with this extremely painful condition. 1.5 years later, I saw a competent neurosurgeon who clearly saw evidence of the classical form of this condition. I’ll have surgery soon, which will hopefully be effective in reducing or eliminating pain. Then I need the other side done. It is rare to have it on both sides. If not successful, I’m screwed.
Also, I recently learned that he also misdiagnosed my friend, who had Parkinson’s diseases which caused him to delay treatment also. He was told his symptoms were just old age. He was 67. My friend is now dead. Do yourself a favor and avoid this doctor, he has no business being in this business, yes, I said business, not profession.

I went to him for a second opinion and he was great. Will go back. Very knowledgeable and pleasant, in a field filled with odd personalities...

He was kind to me. I had to press him a little but I wouldn't hesitate to return to him.

I met Dr. Baten in the hospital. He did a few drive-bys and seemed very knowledgeable about my head injury (though I was on Dilaudid). When I went to see him for out-patient care, each time I waited in the receptionist area for over an hour. By the time I got to see him, my appointments (concerning my brain!) only lasted 10 minutes; this was all the time he would give me, and most of this time he spends on his cell phone. He advised me to take the wrong NSAIDS, which could have had disastrous results, as my blood needs to stay thin to prevent stroke. Necessary follow-up MRIs are scheduled only when I pressed the issue. He talks to me like I am mentally-challenged, so I end up having to interpret and investigate the radiologist's reports myself. I know all neurologists tend to be a little strange, but there is a serious lack of patient care here. I would not be surprised if a huge malpractice suit were to be brought against him. Needless to say, I have found a better neurologist.
