I went to this doctor for years until I stopped getting my period altogether and sought her out for a diagnosis and treatment. My mom died of ovarian cancer so gynecological health is ALWAYS on my mind. I had started exercising abruptly while underweight and suspected this was the cause but she didn’t seem convinced or give me a clear diagnosis other than having an extremely thin uterine lining. She told me I’d need to be on birth control the rest of my life essentially and that was it. I asked point blank “can this cause cancer?” And she said “no” very clearly and that a thick uterine lining could but not a thin one. Covid happened and I canceled my follow up in April for obvious reasons. I called back recently and told them I didn’t want to pump myself up with hormones right now and asked if this could cause any serious issues. She got on the phone with me and told me I NEEDED to come in ASAP and that I could get cancer if I don’t! I was flabbergasted in the middle of a work day and almost started crying. I knew at that point that I’d never go back and would seek a second opinion. Since then 2 other obgyns have told me it’s likely hypothalamic amenorrhea and would never cause cancer. It felt to me like she was scaring me back into the office and knowing my family history that’s unacceptable and extremely not ok. I’ll never be back and hope others can avoid this scenario as well.
