Dr. Sumsion has an extremely kind demeanor, and I have had other family members have good experiences with him. During my pregnancy, however, I had multiple negative experiences with him and his staff. One of his nurses was sent in to give me something at the end of a yearly physical and she failed to knock and walked in on me while I was changing. She still handed me what she had and then left the room. When I was farther along he somehow came in with the wrong file and instead of discussing our 20 week anatomy scan he wanted to start by scheduling my c-section when he had previously agreed I could deliver naturally. The mistake was figured out quickly, and the rest of the appointment was fine. When I was a month out from my due date Dr Sumsion told me he thought I might need to be checked sooner than I had scheduled and he made me an appointment with a different doctor (he was going to be out of town) for a few days later. He didn’t tell me he had any concerns, but as he left the room he mentioned if I got any headaches to go straight to the hospital. I didn’t have time to ask any follow up questions. When I went in for that next check up, I was surprised to hear I had preeclampsia and I would have to go immediately to the hospital to be induced. I wish he would have given me ANY information about what was going on with MY health during that appointment so that I could have been more prepared for that day. Overall, I understand Doctors can make mistakes or have bad days, but I found his office to always have a huge wait time, disorganized enough that they make frequent mistakes, and uninformative when patients deserve to be told what is going on.
