I was involved in a car accident when I was rear ended at a full stop traffic light on Bayfield Street in June. I knew within minutes that there was something wrong with my knee. Later in the evening it gave out completely causing a fall and I went to the ER. Cray showed nothing but a possible torn meniscus was the diagnosis. Family doctor ordered an MRI and many weeks later it was finally my turn for the test. Results showed a complex torn meniscus and a partially torn ACL. My family doctor sent out referrals for an orthopaedic surgeon. Finally I got an appointment with Doctor McKenzie. From June Till November I have been suffering with falls from my knee giving out, swelling, pain and the inability to open my knee up fully. This caused horrible depression, loss of sleep and overall feelings of helplessness. I have been in physio since the accident and though it has helped with the soft tissue and muscle damage my knee has just progressively got worse. I went for my appointment and the receptionist was kind and professional and made me feel welcomed and comfortable. I filled out the simple forms and after a really short waiti was brought to the exam room. Dr. McKenzie came in and kindly introduced himself. I’m always a little nervous meeting new doctors 🥼 even though I have met some of the kindest Doctors in the world I was also treated by one of the worst. He instantly put me at ease and seemed like a doctor that really is in the field to help others. He put me through a few exercises and reviewed the MRI results. We decided to do a meniscus surgery to get rid of the piece folded over on itself to give me my range back. No more walking weird for stability which is causing pain on my opposite hip. After half a year I finally have a treatment plan and most of all HOPE, which has been shattered since June. He is hoping to fit me in within the next few months maybe even over Christmas holidays. I’ve never been so excited for the idea of surgery. I’m now in the waiting phase and checking my email everyday hoping for an email with a surgery date. I’ve been crying happy tears knowing that a plan is in place and I can finally start recovery after the surgery. I will update after surgery but so far this doctor gets an A+++ from me!

Previously, I had a diagnosed torn meniscus but fairly easily walked with some discomfort and but some locking which was concerning....no aids or medication required. During consult this doctor estimated that I would have a 60% improvement and that seemed reasonable so I went ahead with surgery. After meniscectomy my recovery, was slow. Dr. McKenzie advised that I should get a brace a cane and take anti-inflammatories moving forward. This was not how I wanted to live in the future so I declined and did increase exercise. Recently, I have read that quadriceps atrophy is a not an uncommon side effect after this surgery and must be built up and the muscle reactivated. That is what happened to me. I am glad that I declined a brace, do not walk with a cane and rarely take Advil. But I have to now gradually rebuilding my very atrophied quad muscle. I am knock kneed and had emailed an article re surgery to repair this with a wedge being performed along with the meniscectomy. I should have further pursed as Dr. McKenzie did not respond to it. Since then I have met a person who had the wedge surgery at same time as her meniscectomy with amazing results. That said, I would say that there are more progressive and helpful surgeons out there performing this surgery. If he had told me about the risk of quad atrophy and focused on avoiding it to strengthen leg instead of being so quick to advise a brace, cane and Advil things would have proceeded in a more positive direction for me. Lesson learned.

I've had Scott do a lot of work to help this aging aerobics instructor and competitive athlete as she has fallen apart over the years. (Since I have a PhD, I maintain the right to call him Scott since a doctor is a doctor). Recently he replaced my hip and I can say that I have the tiniest scar and was walking with a cane in two weeks and had no pain. If you are going to go under for a procedure, you have the kindest face to look upon and an excellent record for your recovery. I feel like I met this guy as Doogie Howser some 15 years ago, but he's grown up to be an exceptional surgeon and remarkably caring doctor.

Dr McKenzie is the best, efficient, kind orthopaedic surgeon I have ever had the pleasure to meet and end up on his list. He is caring, listens to his patient, and offers appropriate advice. I do hope should I need further surgery, he will be available to fix my problem. I had a hip replacement by him in July 2017,have seen him twice since and all is healed well with the hip.Looking forward to my next apt. with him. I am 80 yrs old, but he is VERY easy on the eyes as well!!

I'm 85 years old, and can WALK, SIT, and STAND better than I could when I was 79 years old thanks to TWO perfect hip replacements, and now, TWO perfect knee replacements executed by Doctor McKenzie. I have regained my independence, and I have no pain. I would not be where I am to-day without Doctor Mckenzies' expertise, and care. I am, so very grateful!!

Displaced olecranon surgery Feb 2016. Excellent surgeon and bedside manner. Very first time I broke a bone and this break required plate & pins to attach my Olecranon to the Ulna. At consult with Dr Mckenzie which was just prior to going into OR we discussed what options I had for the hardware. I respected his response to my questions about the hardware which was that until he looked inside he could not confirm what hardware he would use. Makes sense! Surgery went perfect and a plate and 8 screws we installed. Follow up appt. in 2 weeks post surgery. Dr. Mckenzie was very puctual for all of my appts. Xrays showed excellent healing. Soft cast & staples were removed from my incision. Another soft cast was in order for 2 more weeks of healing. I didnt want the soft cast to be put on. He listen to my concern & suggested a brace which would still restrict my movement for healing but allow my arm to breath. I was so thankful for this option. After only 4 weeks post surgery brace no longer required and I started my physio. Dr. Mckenzie performed amazing surgery and my scar is hardly noticeable even after getting the hardware removed 4 months later. I was golfing by early May 2016 and back on my bike (which was the reason for the surgery) as well. My overall experience was excellent and I am very fortunate to have had him as my surgeon.

I am extremly happy with my hip surgery performed by Dr. McKenzie July 15th 2016! With great accuracy he managed to line up my left hip even with my right! Also did a super job with my incision which as a result is a very thin scar . Pain was minimal & am ever so grateful with a job well done.
Thank you Dr.Scott McKenzie!
